What was that beast?

It looks like a .357 Remington Maximum but I could be wrong.

On second glance it could be a "Super Magnum" at 1.61" in length.

It looked more like a 45-70 to me, or maybe something bigger.
-
I think you are correct on the 45-70.
-
.500 Nitro Express? I've heard of handguns being made for it, although for what purpose I have no idea.
-
Some people think bigger is better. . . . . I go for placement myself.
-
I agree, Eric; too much gun like this one has diminishing returns.
-
No thanks! My .454 Casull is already at the upper limit of recoil I'm willing to tolerate in a handgun.
-
The shooter was clearly struck by the fact that he had too much gun! I have seen a video with the same thing happening at a covered outdoor range...knocked the guy down.

You've got to give that man credit for one thing, if not good judgment. He did manage to destroy the target water jug. That has to be worth a point or two ... provided that one ignores the following minor consideration: He came very close to breaking open his skull and destroying not only his eyesight but also the frontal lobe of his brain.

Concerning too much gun, I saw a single shot handgun that loaded like a cannon; listed on Gun Broker about six months ago. It said low production numbers; but did not say unfired. The ammo used was .50BMG. If unfired it would remain that way by me. Wayne in SE Arkansas
