Ask the TurkeyHunter from Florida or Mr. Driver. I think the further out we get from the end of production, the higher the value will be on like new or unfired guns. We're also going to see more well-worn examples for sale that have been in someone's pocket for five or tens years, dropped a few times, scratched, gouged, etc.

I have to agree with you on that but that is about 3 or 4 hundred high in my opinion.
I picked up a Farmingdale last week that certainly appears unfired though not listed that way with carbon fiber grips and everything in the box yet for 400 less than that.
I watch the number of visitors on this site and believe there is a lot of interest. I don't know, maybe it's the retro porn drawing them. ;)

No kidding, right?

People love the stealths. Give me a two tone without sights👍🏻

I was in to it for $1350 but no higher, that is a crazy price. Nice gun but to ME it wasn't worth it. The buyer was a new guy, only 4 feedbacks and it wouldn't be the first time a newbie backed out. I have 312 Positive feedbacks and would NOT sell to new guys. Got burned a few times.
Seller was solid though. Lots of feedback, and a FFL. That's who you buy from.

I'm the newbie that paid too much for the gun. Paid for it right after the auction ended so don't worry about the seller getting burned. Congrats on all your positive feedback.
-
Ah haaa. . . . . So you bought that one hunter! Very cool. That is one of the last few guns I put together. The last sequential number frame was R6666 . . . . sort of "The Devil" . . . . lol. Good find there as it looks like new.

Welcome Turkey Hunter. Congrats on your auction win. What a gun is worth to one person is different than what it's worth to others. Some people want to wait for a great deal. Others find the exact gun they want and don't want to wait for another to show up, that whole time is money thing. I've paid a hundred or two "too much" for the exact gun I was looking for and I couldn't be happier. This forum is full of Rohrbaugh fans who are knowledgeable and helpful. Steer clear of the negative and you'll find this forum is a great resource for Rohrbaugh fans.

Thanks ECR and PhilZ. I have collected antique firearms for 40 years. Never paid too much the right gun. I don't collect modern firearms but a friend of mind showed me his R9 and I had to have one. Joined the forum recently to get educated on R9 and have found it very helpful. Thx again.

Hi Hunter,
PLEASE don't get me wrong. It is NOT too much if you can afford it and you want it. I was the one you were bidding against. I quit at $1350 because that was what it was worth to me. Hell I just bought my SECOND Security Industries revolver. Most, well ALL here, will see that as crazy. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Welcome to the site. Lots of info here.

I have been trying to figure out the best self-defense ammo for my new R9. I see a lot of discussion about different rounds. Some work well and some not very well at all? Is there a consensus view. Gold Dots? Thx
-
Turkeyhunter: I have been accused of overpaying for everything from cars to real estate. Remember the famous words of Oscar Wilde " My tastes in life are very simple. Just give me the best of everything!". You don't buy the best of everything cheaply. Not everything in life has to make economical sense either. Enjoy & welcome to the forum of the finest 9mm & .380 ever built.

I believe Winchester Silvertips were originally recommended. People use a LOT of different STANDARD PRESSURE rounds but i'll stick to the Silvertips.

I would try 124 hydrashock first. 👌

If you are going to pocket carry the best, and thinest that stays in the pocket during a draw, is a Blackhawk #2. I got mine from Amazon for like $10.00

Since I know nothing about collecting modern firearms, I am looking for input. I have another one of these rascals. Another stealth. It is new in the box, never fired and has all the accoutrements. I even have the original receipt where the original owner paid $1200 for the gun. If it would cost $1200 new but you can't buy it because it's out of production, then how much should you pay for the brand-new unfired gun? Is an unfired gun Worth more than a gun fire 10 times?
-
As a long time G-broker seller/buyer I have found that most 'unfired' guns are just clean used guns with just a few rounds through them. Enjoy your VERY RARE bird and somewhere down the line it will be worth a lot more. Keep it clean, keep ALL manuals, and NEVER scratch or knick it.
As I said you got a great gun, I was the other bidder, I just gave up too soon. :-\
-
Well I have two but I guess I can't carry either of them so now I'll have to buy a good used gun.thx for everyone's help

Three is always better than two. I am SLOWLY getting there.

Delivered as described. Pin retainer shows evidence of gun being fired but not much. Otherwise, in new condition. Seller did very nice job.

Silvertips were the recommended ammo for the Seecamp pistols but are somewhat underpowered. The single most favored 9mm round here seems to be the Federal Gold Dot 124gr JHP. Federal Lawman 124gr FMJ is excellent and relatively inexpensive practice ammo that was developed to mimic the Gold Dots. Some others use 115gr and others 147 gr., but 124 seems the best received. Each one of these tiny pistols will have its own preference in ammo, so find what works predictably in yours and stick with it. No +P allowed! Remember to tighten grip screws after each practice session, keep it clean and it will do you proud.

I bought a R9 that was customized by Cogan which included his Double ported barrel. I took it along with another R9 that I have shot a lot and chronographed three factory loads in both guns,
Here are the results:
Federal Hydra Shoks, 124 grain - Std R9 - 964 fps, SD - 14 fps
- Ported R9 – 964 fps, SD - 5 fps
Gold Dot 124 grain - Std R9 - 1021 fps, SD – 21 fps
-Ported R9 - 1009 fps, SD – 14 fps
Gold Dot 115 grain -Std R9 - 1062 fps, SD – 12 fps
-Ported R9 - 1062, SD – 18 fps
My everyday carry is a Kimber Solo which I carry the Remington GS 124 gr +P Bonded. They choronograph at 1050 fps out of the 2 3/4" barrel.
-
Have you tried Federal HST 124 gr?
-
I have shot them but I do not have any standard pressure ones left as I went to using 124 gr HST +P and that is all I have in inventory.
I never carry a R9 any more.

Hi MRC,
Thanks for the effort, GREAT info. Looks like I will be switching to the Gold Dots from my Winchester JHP's.

You might want to try HSTs also.

Thank you all for your advice

MRC, I have been afraid to carry my Solo since it is SAO and would be cocked and locked like a 1911, but with only the thumb safety and, at least in my case, an extremely light trigger. At least with my particular pistol the risk of inadvertently firing under stress or due to carelessness would seem high, and the risk of some plaintiff's attorney making that claim equally high....thoughts?

As long as you don't lighten the trigger or modify the weapon in ANY WAY You should be OK. I carry mine 24/7 with no worries. It is the Glock crowd with the "MAKE MY DAY" engraved on the slide that are looking for problems.

The trigger on my Solo is very good but long like most DAO pistols. They call it a Single Action but in truth it is not. The slide's action puts it at 90% of fully cocked. The trigger cocks it the other 10% and deactivates a firing pin block also. The action is really no different than the Kahr's and Glocks. I do not feel that I would be any more prone to have an accidental discharge with the Solo than iI would with a R9. Read this article:
http://www.chuckhawks.com/kimber_solo_carry.htm
I pocket carry mine with the safety off. I have gotten to like the safety as I engage it when I remove it and holster from my pocket.
I am on my second Solo. Both have been 100%. I liked the first one so well that I stepped up to the CDP version to get the checkered front strap and night sights. I replaced the Crimson Trace laser grips with VZ's. I was going to sell the CT Grips but decided to keep them.
-
The SOLO is a great gun no doubt!
-
The Micro 9 Kimbers are selling so well that Kimber switched the Solo production line over to the Micro 9's.
Many are predicting that the Solo will be discontinued.

I love my Micro 9 Raptor!

I thought I paid too much for this gun. Maybe not based on prices listed since my purchased. A Stealth is listed now for $2450!
