My Geocaching Video (No Gun Content!)
« on: December 31, 2010, 09:21:57 AM »
Hey guys,

Since so many of you have become personal friends over the years, I wanted to post this little look into my non-gun life...

We do a lot of Geocaching -- a high-tech type of treasure hunt.  Its a great way to get outside, explore the outdoors, and have some fun with the kids.  Actually, we have so much fun that we sometimes leave the kids at home!

This is a local challenge we did -- to get 6 different cache types in one day.

More importantly, I bought some video editing software and this is my very first attempt at editing video since I was editing 3/4 inch VHS in middle school!

Let me know what you think.  And, look for some gun oriented videos in the future.   ;D

So here is a little of what we have been up to this week.

This is my very first attempt at editing video since middle school -- so don't be too critical!

The others in the video are my Dad and my girls.  My R-9 is in the video, but you can't see it!

Cool video. I am aware of what geocaching is (discovered it with my first cell phone with GPS) but have never done it.

Looks like a lot of fun and a good family activity - combines some mental challenges with some excercise - and a good chance to take a pup along for comfort. Still trying to figure out where yours was - my best guess is right front pocket.

I am still on the Geocaching web site, even though I am in active. I do have a couple of Caches in my area that I set up.

In your video, I would have liked to see more of the actual cache sites and the log and what ever theme they were associated with. For instance we have Music in the Woods where all CD music is traded in the cache site.

I certainly enjoyed the video, it was great seeing you and the family having fun.

Great video, Duane! I'm thinking that might be an enjoyable way to spend a day with a couple of my grandsons here in the Great Smoky Mountains.

(Rather like a high-tech sports car rally.)  8)

Chameleon,

Thanks for your input.  The lack of "cache content" was actually on purpose.  We recently had a little kerfluffle in the local caching community because of "spoiler" videos showing entire hunts.

I was careful to only show the containers when the type of container was clear from the cache description page, and to only show the vague general area of the cache.

I agree with you -- but some people are very sensitive about this stuff!   ;D  I was trying to be a diplomat -- as always.   ;)

I actually did not think of those spoilers, I guess I was thinking I'd never get to those geocache sites. You're correct about that, you'd get your head handed to you.

When I'm traveling, I don't do cache sites, I did at one time in the beginning, now I do not.

I've been out of the geocaching for some time now for the most part.
