It's HERE! - New R9S - lube?
« on: March 09, 2005, 01:01:27 PM »
My R9S arrived today. I just picked it up from my FFL.

After reading the photocopy insert regarding grease lubing on barrel and rails and inspecting the pistol, I've discovered a major discrepancy.  The pistol appears to be bone dry from the factory.  No lube (oil or grease) at all is present.

Does this mean I have to take it down and lube it before running off to the range?

My # is R157 :)

I think that is always good advice with any new gun.

Which means I was caught flatfooted without proper take down tools :)

What's the size of the punch?  ???

Ok, I took a hint from another post about using a bamboo skewer and took it apart.  My first impression of it being dry was incorrect.  Only the barrel and barrel hood had no lube contrary to the photocopy instructions. I'll lube'r up like the picture and it will be ready to rock and roll at the range!

Is that brand new from the factory, or used?  It looks like it has the blue grips and was under the impression they were now shipping with the black.

Well, it does have the bluish grips but in all ways it appears to be brand spanking new.  It came directly from Rohrbaugh to my FFL.  We both spoke with Maria to make the arrangements.  Not sure what to tell you otherwise. Serial number seems low to me.

Is there a serial number thread?

Wow, blue grips, a low serial number, and only arrived today.  Somebody's living right!

I'm not quite sure, but I believe that the "R" designation on the serial number was not present in the early guns, so it is possible, I would imagine, that there is a serial# 157 (without the "R" prefix) already in existence.

As to the blue grips, this is only speculation.  I would imagine it is possible that your R9 was partially assembled with the blue grips, then set aside for some period until a time when the blue grips were gone and the black ones began to be used.  Again, without a confirmation, this is only speculation.

Either way, consider yourself lucky - that's a beauty!

I would like to pick up a pair of the black grips as I like how they look..  However, at 80.00, the blue looks pretty nice to me also!!! ;)  Jim
