Reinsertion of recoil assembly
« on: July 25, 2005, 02:31:06 PM »
I know that I saw some discussion of this including some photos showing a pliers or wrench used to compress the springs to permit putting the recoil assembly back in the slide but now I can't find the right thread.  I think I even recall a post from RJ Hedley saying that he can do it without pliers.  I could be fabricating wildly.  Can anyone direct me to that thread or explain how to do it?  I've gotten the gun put back together successfully but it was a struggle.  No problem with the disassembly pin that others have had trouble with but major struggle to get the recoil assembly back in.  I don't think I'm doing it right.

Thanks.

Bugsy,

My new R9S just arrived, and it includes an extra sheet in the owner's manual.

"Using a pair of channel-lock pliers, grab the recoil system by the front end cap and by the base of the small collar, which is where the outer recoil spring's finished end rests, and carefully compress the spring.  Then insert the complete recoil system into the barrel / slide assembly as shown, releasing the pliers.  The slide assembly is now ready to be put back into the frame."

Hope this helps.

If you hold the slide in a vise (be sure to request a piece of leather padding from RJ Hedley), you can easily compress the springs with your fingers and install the recoil assembly.  You don't want to let the little devil get away from you, or you'll be looking for small parts all night.

I got my R9S the same time as Michigunner.  It, too, had the added sheet with the Owners Manual.  Check Rohrbaugh's site for the Manual.  You can download it as an Adobe .pdf file.  I haven't checked lately, but I'd be surprised if the new page is not there.

Thanks for the advice.  I'm sure I'll get the hang of it.

RJ, the extra sheet is in the manual that is currently coming with the new pistols.

It is about using channel-locks to re-assemble, plus other topics.
