Purchasing a new R9s

As I've been reading this forum I've seen several references to the waiting period to get a new R9/s. In some cases the references seem to be about dealing directly with the factory. I assume that federal law still applies and the guns must be delivered though an FFL. The problem is that my local FFL's, at least the ones I commonly use, don't want anything to do with ordering a gun that they can't get from a distributor's stock. Nobody wants to deal with a gun that may be six months to a year out.

So, how do I buy one?

Do I personally order it from the factory, pay for it when it's about to be built, and have it sent to my FFL?

Do I look for a more cooperative FFL?

Do I buy one off gunbroker.com where the only R9s available is $201 more than an R9. (However possibly beating the waiting period.)

Do I move to an area zoned for business and get my own FFL? (I wish!)

As always, any suggestions will be appreciated.

Tom - others like your namesake Tom (Irish Guard) may be able to comment better than I - but - I think #1, find a friendly FFL - and then an order can be placed.  Indeed, there will be a wait but AFAIK Robaugh Bros do not ask for payment up front with an order - the bulk of payment will IIRC be invoiced on final delivery.  So no FFL should really be awkward about it.

I guess maybe you could order from factory - as long as you have a FFL set up to receive - in other words you could tell Bros R where it would go.  Payment tho would I think still be thru FFL.

Some searching around will probably find you something available - but either expect to pay the higher price or - maybe hit lucky.

Check gunsamerica.com . Frank at K5 Arms has an R9S listed there for $949, and there's another for even less.

Talk to the factory.  Give them a copy of your dealer's FFL.  And then settle down and enjoy the anticipation of taking delivery of your own little masterpiece.

You could find one, such as the one on this forum, and set up the purchase from dealer to dealer.
 My dealer gets $35.00 to do the transfer at his end.
I can see this way would cost a bit more, but there is no wait.

I personally have looked around till I found a dealer I'm very happy with -- admittedly I live in a small town in Texas, and most of the people I know tend to go to the gun shop and hang out at least for a little while during the day -- but there's no reason to put up with that behavior from a dealer -- try to find a small gun shop in the area -- preferrably owned by the smith.
