Number Of R9s made and members of Forum?
« on: June 27, 2006, 10:14:51 PM »
I was looking at GunsAmerica and saw a new pup  with a serial number of R1219 for sale. My pup is R113x. I THINK I read in our threads that the serial numbers on the frames are not sold in numerical order (and isn't that different than most gun companies?) About how many R9s do you suppose Rohrbaugh has sold, and with 652 members of this form is that about 50% (some of you own more than one) of ALL pup owners that are members of this forum? I realize that Rohrbaugh is a small company and relatively new, but isn't that a much higher percentage than most gun forums? If this is true, why do you suppose? Les

I agree with tracker and....

This R9 is how shall I say it, "finiky".  People need help and advice on the care, cleaning and feeding of their R9 and lets face it, help with the jam problems that seem common to some R9's but not others.

I bought mine about 2 months ago from the only Authorized Rohrbaugh retailer in my state from a shipment of 10 and the # is 138X

IIRC the first guns to hit the market started at the 100 mark.  I guess therefore we are seeing a total output now of about 1,100 plus.

Mine are both early - low numbers - March 2004 and Oct 2004.  I do not know for sure on the forum just how many members are R9 owners in their own right - some may have joined to find out stuff and yet still not purchased.

Even so yes, maybe in percentage terms we have had a very large number of owners join - and in that respect quite possibly it beats any other gun board.

Reason possibly - just that this site has in its own way been and is, pretty much the one and only and so the definitive source for info.

I, for one, am thankful to all those contributing to our continued appreciation of the R9.

I think Chris's recollection is correct.  Eric once told me that they held the first 100 pistols as presentation pieces.  As I understand it, the marketed guns started with Serial No. 101.  (I'm the proud owner of No. 132.   8)

OK, Richard is low man so far (my pup is # 227).  Who's got braggin' rights that can beat him?   :D

I'll echo the comments above that say that the combination of love for this unique pistol combined with a need to keeping it well "in tune" (like the fine sports car it is...) means that this forum is likely as unique as the pistol in terms of % of owners who are members.

The value for a used R9 are so close to new ones that it would still be easy to sell if it did not work for you.

This makes it easier to buy a gun sight unseen.

Some complain about the long lead time to get one.  I placed an order with the Rohrbaughs 18 months before they started shipping.  Mine were among the first 10 shipped...  :) ;D

I carry and shoot one of them regularly.  As much as I hate the concept of "safe queens", I just can't bring myself to shoot the other one - and likely never will.

They're great guns (and great guys...).
