Who's Shootin' What This Weekend?
« on: December 15, 2006, 12:09:40 PM »
For me, I'm gonna shot the R9s. So far have 110 rounds thru it. Will try the new holster. Bought (5) new recoil springs so I can do some more break-in and testing this weekend. After I get a short pounding (no disrespect intended) by the pup, I'll probably shoot some G27 and G34. May take the 870 as well for kicks. It's gonna be nice in my area and I can't wait to put some bullets down range. Yall too? Stay safe and have fun.

Joe

Hey Joe - hope you have a great time!  It sounds likes you are well prepared.
I'll be cleaning guns from shooting last weekend.

I shot my pup a couple weeks ago, decided yesterday to just play with my Steyr S9 and this new little toy: http://www.kel-tec.com/sub2000.html that I picked up a couple weeks back.  Mine is in 9mm (what can I say, I like 9's...) and it is a fun little thing.  Real easy to shoot, accurate out to 50 yards (longest I've shot it so far), and how many carbines will fit inside a standard briefcase?  ;D

Tom, you bet.  Real windy here in central MO, but otherwise extra nice weather (65, partly cloudy).  Wind was playing havoc with my 'informal targets' (tin cans, mostly - the advantage of private property), so only went through a couple hundred rounds.  But it was a lot of fun, breaking in the Sub2000.  Need to get the 1" stock extension for it, though...

Hey Seven - Nothing like plinking on private property.  Sounds like you had a good day .
I have a Sub 2000 as well.  I have it set up  in a breif case with 3 Glock 32 Rd mags loaded and an extra box of ammo.  So when I'm ready to take it shooting, I just pick  up the case and go.
I have it in the breif case because I drive a van and  of course have no trunk- thus no way to conceal it well.  This was it does  not scream  - gun!   I'm  not trying to be James Bond.

I'm not trying to be James Bond.

Evidently not, since I understand the new guy doesn't even like guns.  :o

Yeah, I've got a couple of the big mags on order, the reason why I got my Sub2K set up to handle the Glock magazines.  That thing is too much fun to shoot to have to stop after 10 rounds to reload!

And besides, how many people would expect your "full size" CCW to be a carbine?  ;D

Seven,

Interesting comment and got me to thinking.

In my state the CC permit clearly states "any legal handgun".  That is if you have an "unrestricted" license.  One can get a permit for a revolver only.   This of course means no carbines.  In my state we have a conceiled handgun permit not a conceiled weapons permit.   What are the rules in your states?

That's a good question, Mike, and prompted me to go back and take another look.  From http://www.packing.org/state/missouri/#statenote

20. A concealed carry endorsement issued pursuant to this section or a concealed carry endorsement or permit issued by another state or political subdivision of another state shall authorize the person in whose name the permit or endorsement is issued to carry concealed firearms on or about his or her person or vehicle throughout the state.

The language elsewhere in our statute (I'm in MO, obviously) indicates any legal concealable firearm.  So, while I was jesting about carrying around the briefcase with the Sub2000 in it, it looks like it would, indeed, be legal if you have a valid CCW permit.  (In MO there's no specification as to type of weapon or need to list specific weapons, as exists in some states.)

Thanks 7,

You are lucky.  It would seem that the only thing that would prevent you from using whatever legal firearem you wish is that it be accessable fast.

Im my state we must retreat unless there is no other option so haveing the time to get a firearm from a briefcase or other time consuming location would be problumatic as fas as the question of could you have run away instead of using deadly force.

The name is misleading but a type of Castle Doctrin Bill has been introduced in the state legeslature and I hope and prey that it passes .  At present the only time one is not required to retreat is when one is INSIDE your home or owned business.
