New extra power mag springs... that's the ticket!
« on: February 18, 2007, 11:03:53 PM »
My new R9 wasn't a good performer right out of the box, well, it didn't feed more than about 2 rounds of anything before it jammed.  I had gone out and got a box of every non +P self defense 124 & 115 gr hollow point I could find.  It hated everything... Gold Dot 115 & 124, Silvertip 115, Hornady 124 (way cool black coated brass), Remington 115, Federal 9BP 115 & Hydrashok 135, and Winchester White box 115 FMJ.  Nothing worked, even though gun was cleaned and lubed right out of the box prior to shooting.  Tried 3 different new mags, no dice.

I recognized that it was a magazine problem from the start, and almost swapped in a Kahr PM9 mag spring before I found this forum and learned that new/replacement extra power mag springs were available. Called Maria and got the right part(s), so no experimenting was necessary.

I have to tell you, I absolutely HATE sending a gun back to the factory to get fixed, not because of the factory mind you, but because of shipping. I'm a real white knuckle shipper, and I really don't sleep until my gun is safely back in my safe. These new springs saved me the unnecessary ordeal with shipping back to Rohrbaugh.

What a difference.  After adding that little $8 spring (I was lazy, only did one mag and marked it "NEW" with a sharpie), it doesn't even seem like the same gun. Now I'm 100% on those expensive WW 115 gr Silvertips and WW white box FMJ.  :D

I owe you guys bigtime for getting the word out on those new springs. THANKS!  ;D

Our experiences with the new mag springs were very close.Changing that spring cleared my hangover and removed the worm from my mag. The stronger springs added the extra salt and lime that my drink needed.

OK, just in case someone missed this: change your mag springs.  Just got my new ones in, and was stunned at the difference in the heft of the spring, not to mention the new ones are about half again as long as the originals.  My pup has been a good feeder, but this has got to help maintain a steady diet!  ;D

Wow - thanks to everyone here who was behind this change, and thanks to the Brothers R for listening!

Thanks I appreciate it! I likely won't even bother shooting it until I put the updated springs in the mags.
