Does This Make Sense?
« on: February 13, 2009, 07:38:35 AM »
I am trying various ammo on my new R9.  I tried Gold Dot 124 grain GDHP and had 50% failure to fire beginning with the first round. Shot 50 rounds total. I then tried Golden Sabre  (at a separate session and shot 50 rounds) and had 30% failure to fire with one stovepipe.   I called the company and they were very nice and told me to try winchester silver tips.  I am trying to order some.  Haven't got them yet.  Howver, when I went back to the range and tried some cheap FMJ plinking ammo, I shot 25 rounds without a problem.  Any thoughts?  Thanks for your help.  Disappointed but hopeful.  I want to make sure that if I carry the pistol it will be reliable for me.  The grips screws are tight.  It appears the rounds that didn't fire had normal strikes on the bullets but it took 2 or 3 pulls of the trigger to make them fire.  The gun is cleaned and lubed.  I am ok if the pitol will only eat winchester silvertips.  I can accept that.  I just haven't been able to get my hands on any.  The gun stores in my area say it is all on backorder. Has anyone else had this problem with their R9?  Need to have some assurance on the reliability of the pistol.  Overall, it is a beautiful piece, just need to get this resolved.  Grateful for your thoughts.  Thanks.

I've had a few issues (light primer strikes) with some ammo but none with the Silvertips.

chasdo4,

Just had my new R9s Stealth out for it's deflowering yesterday.  It was a short session. Started with 20 WWB
115 gr. FMJ and ended with 14 Speer LE Gold Dot 115 GDHP.

The pup performed flawlessly with all 34 rounds.  No issues of any kind.

Maybe you should try another lot number of the Gold Dots??

Regards, Quiet1

PS  Have to add a "Boast".  Shooting from 15 yards, the shortest distance allowed at the outdoor public range that I used, the very first shot was only about 1/2" low and 1/2" left from a dead center Bullseye!!!  I couldn't believe it.  I know that it was pure chance.  I'm certainly not a much of a marksman. (I only got one of the other 34 rounds that close.)  ;D  But I sure am inpressed with this little pistola.  :)   :)

It's easy to be impressed with an R9s.  I find I shoot it better than I shoot my Seecamp .380 and that little sucker is pretty accurate.  :)

Mine has been 100% with several types of ammo including WWB target rounds and a couple other type defensive ammo. These little guns are pretty jumpy and need a firm hand to make sure they cycle correctly. If you are limp wristing at all it can be a problem. Not insinuating anything but throwing something up to think about next time you get yours to the range. Keep a FIRM grip on it and make sure your wrists are locked in tight. Hope it's something this simple to fix your problem.

I have over 120 rounds of Speer GD, Win. White Box, and Silvertips with no misfires.  Both of my mags seem to work well.

Inspect the mags and stiffen your wrists.  I had a wrist issue when I started with my Glock 19 that trained me well.

Enjoy.  Once you get the mags and ammo sorted out, you will find this to be a superb arm.  I carry mine unless I am sleeping.  And then it is on the bedstand.  I trust it completely.
