Standard pressure 147's in the R9?
« on: September 07, 2010, 07:18:25 PM »
Is there any reason to avoid firing standard pressure 147 grain loads in the R9?  There's a good bit of talk on other forums cautioning P7 owners to not shoot even standard pressure 147's in their squeeze guns.  If the 147's can beat up a tank like the P7 (which can easily handle 124 gr +P's), may one conclude 147's might also be hard on the R9 which specifically advises against shooting +P or +P+ loads?  Thank you for your comments.

I shoot 147's with no problems.  I know others here do also.  As long as it NOT +p the factory says OK.

Welcome to the forum too.

I shoot and carry 147s and have had no problems or concerns.

I shoot Gold Dot 147's out of mine and have not had any issues. I prefer the heavier bullets, even in 9mm.  I guess we all have opinions though.  I have not encountered any extra wear, or extra recoil compared to 115 grain.

From my understanding of the HK P7, the reason they say to avoid the 147 grain bullets is due to the gas delayed blowback system. It is not an issue of wear on the frame. The P7 was designed around the 124 grain bullet,  and can be unreliable in heavier grain weights. If anyone with more knowledge of the HK P7 finds my information incorrect, feel free to correct me.   Hope this helps.

No problems here either with 147s. I've dropped back to 124-grain fodder just to retain ammo compatibility with my HK P7, which was designed around the NATO 115/124 weight loads. Otherwise, I would still be using the 147s in my R9 on the theory of throwing a "bigger rock."

I personally do not do the 147s,but as you see several do with no detriment to the Pup!!

As long as the pup will digest it,and it is not a +P load, should be no problem!!
