Covert
« on: June 01, 2011, 06:12:34 PM »
I've been reading this forum for the last couple of weeks and I'm sold.  I want a Rohrbaugh, but I'm not sure which variation to buy.  Does anyone on the forum have the  "Covert" model?  Is the trigger really any lighter or smoother than a regular R9?  Has the finish held up well?  Any estimate of how many of this variation have been produced?  Thanks.

HR

Welcome to the forum. I am not sure about the Covert or whether that is a gun furnished by the factory or an aftermarket gun. I seem to recall some discussion on this forum about the Covert previously.

If it is an aftermarket gun, the Covert may violate the factory warranty. I will defer to others on this forum who may be better informed.

Welcome to the forum HR!

There are a few  fellows with the Covert model here on the forum.

As far as the trigger being lighter -  well with the finish being smoother, it can make the trigger "feel" lighter.  But if you actually put it on a trigger scale before and after it would be neglible.

The Wilson ArmorTuff finish does have a reputation of holding up.

Trust me, you will be happy with any variation of the R9

As far as an actual number?  I guess if you find a dealer selling new ones, he will have that answer.

My understanding, after being corrected by other forum members was that the Covert model was basically a after market/copycat version of the the Special Forces.

Meaning that the Factory does not send the parts to Wilson to be finished in ArmorTuff, an independent dealer does it on his own.

Now as far as any additional tweaking of the extractor, trigger, etc (by Wilson in this case?) I don't know.

HR:

Congratulations on your decision to obtain a Rohrbaugh R9. Prepare to be amazed.

With regard to the finish of the so-called "Covert" model, I have an IMI Timber Wolf pump carbine (.357 Mag.) with Wilson ARMOR-TUFF ® Protective Firearms Finish in OD green and black. The finish has proven to be very durable and shows no signs of wear after three years of use. Of course, experience with the finish of a carbine that is used only occasionally does not necessarily apply to the finish of a pocket pistol that is carried every day. Even so, the Wilson finish seems to live up to its billing. Also, if it were to begin showing signs of wear, the finish could always be reapplied by an authorized technician.

HR.  Welcome to the Forum.  The Covert, as Reinz states, is sold by an authorized Rohrbaugh dealer and sends the gun to Wilson to be finished and thus named the Covert.  Here's a link:

HR.  Lchavezmisc, here on the Forum has a Covert; he can probably answer more of your questions.
