If you place a finger or thumb over the hammer when you re-holster, it gives you a tactile indicator that would be a good way to know if there is an obstruction in the trigger guard that would cause an unwanted discharge.

A q-tip with one of the fuzy ends broken off is a great tool for pushing the take-down-pin back in after you finish cleaning your R9. It wil not scratch the finish either. The plastic straws that come with gun oil cans work great too.
