As one who has taken a punch or several, both in and out of the ring, I found that to be an entertaining read. I've been in my share of "alley brawls" and such, but the most memorable of the punches I recall were delivered at the hands of a New York State Golden Gloves Champion (Lightweight Division) who "cleaned my clock" by the third round of a bout during my college days in 1956.  [In spite of protective headgear and 16-ounce gloves, I had to have my broken nose repaired and found it expedient to wear sunglasses for a week or so to mask the black eyes.]   :-[

I've taken a few myself, but my goal has always been to avoid that particular pleasure.  I grew up in a rough neighborhood, was younger and smaller than most of the guys and got whipped some until my dad took me aside with advice:  "Son, boxing and wresting are sports but street fighting is not fun nor is it a game...in a real fight someone gets hurt, often badly.  So, avoid fighting...walk away, talk your way out if you can, BUT if you have to fight, remember that most fights start with both combatants posturing.  While the other guy is talking big, hit him with a rock or a club, and keep it up until he can't get up...if he does, he'll likely hurt you bad so run like hell."  Made sense to me and I can tell you it worked...get a rep for being crazy mean and bullies just naturally leave you alone.
