I have a XR9-S. I actually deferred the purchase of my first pup for almost two
years while waiting for the XR9-S to become available. Bought the first pup
something like nine months later.
I like the XR9-S but haven't been able to gain the level of confidence in its
reliability to consider if for defensive duty. It's a very nice shooter. Handles
and shoots like it is at least one or more size categories larger. Basically a
mini that shoots like a sub compact.
I used to carry a Colt Mustang Pocketlite and later a Colt Pony Pocketlite.
That was roughly 20 years ago. What attracted me to the Rohrbaugh R9
was that it could conceal just as easily as the Pony but chambered a more
substantial cartridge. Not to mention the better build quality and sex appeal
(or is it just me?).
For a time, Arnie was contemplating his next platform, eventually culminating
in the form of the XR45. I was hoping his musings of something like a XR10
or XR357 would instead be next. I would have loved something like a
XR357-L. Basically a 357 Sig that could have a second .40 S&W barrel for
economical shooting.
A XR10-L with a .40 S&W conversion kit would have been too much to wish for.
A XR357-L would, in my mind, have been a perfect winter carry alternative when
circumstance allowed something bigger than a R9.
