I had the pleasure of attending the 2009 Outdoor Writers Conference hosted by BLACKHAWK! at their world HQ in Norfolk, Virginia this past week.
I have to tell you, I came away VERY impressed with these guys. The CEO (and others in the company) is a former Navy Seal who decided the quality of gear he was issued was not acceptable. Now they make everything to equip a warrior from head to toe -- and its all top notch stuff.
Recently, BLACKHAWK! has gotten much more into the hunting, outdoors, and concealed carry markets. I will be writing more about their stuff in the coming months.
All the guys who work there are top notch Americans who believe in their products and strive to be the best in the market. They also make the vast majority of their stuff in the U.S.A.
In fact, BLACKHAWK! bought the old Uncle Mikes facility in Bozeman, Montanta when UM decided to move production to the far east. BLACKHAWK! hired back about 95% of the Americans who lost their jobs, modernized their facilities, and kept production in the U.S.A. Ironically, even with U.S. production facilities, BLACKHAWK!'s prices are better than the UM imports for comparable products.
