DIY magnetic "Hide a gun" bracket
« on: July 14, 2011, 02:29:15 AM »
I was looking online at a couple of those magnetic gun mounting brackets going for around $30 http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/ZAA105-1.html%20target=

and i came across some sites with examples of some DIY styles. For about $8, i put together one that i will put into use this week. I used an old paint stirrer, two packets of magnets from Lowes, some hot melt glue, and black vinyl tape. I will mount it under my wooden bed frame, and another behind my night table.
(The first few photos were taken with my cell phone camera.)  Can anyone advise if prolonged contact with a magnet can have any negative effects on the gun?

Joe,
Looks like it works pretty good.
I was thinking of making a couple but planned to use the rubber dip coating they sell for tool handles to coat the magnet.

Yeah i thought of using that, but the thicker the covering, the less holding power of the magnets. i wanted to keep it thin so the gun doesn't drop off the holder.

Pretty slick! How much effort does it take to pull the pistol free? I was given some magnets from a computer and they are so damn strong I could not believe it. I am sure it is a good way to hide a pistol of the Seecamp or R9 size.

the guns comes right off. my only concern would be if magnetism would have any negative effects on the gun. i have not gotten a definitive answer on that question.
