Well I actually got my wish[es] (one about the grips shooting loose AND one where instead of the nightmare of buggering up the screws, they came out with little effort and no damage).
I decided to give the pup a good cleaning - better than the quick one immediately after my first range session; as I will be receiving some Gun Butter as soon as UPS delivers today it just seemed like the right time to remove all the current lube and re-lube. In the process of wiping down all the slide and frame rails I discovered I had gotten a piece of lint stuck between the frame and the right grip and it defied easy removal.
This left me little choice but to remove the grip so I could remove the lint. When I did I discovered that 3 of the 4 grip screws were already loose - the grips would have shifted and felt loose had they not been such a tight fit on two pins. The 4th remaining screw easily broke free. So - the VZ Grips will go on when I reassemble. I also hope to post initial reactions to Gun Butter in the existing thread.
But it serves as a good wake-up call - the grips on a pup can get loose and not really feel loose because they are precisely located on one pin that serves as the trigger pivot and a second pin that holds the mainspring and the magazine release. So - after a range session it would be a real good idea to check and tighten them (as necessary) to make certain the gun isn't going to have any problems when you most need it to work.
