Who Carries 16/7 ?, 24/7 If You Include Your Nightstand
« on: July 18, 2012, 12:32:59 AM »
I can not go into the reasons on a public forum, but it is NOT paranoia.  I carry at all times.  Even in the house.  I wear light shorts working in the shop in Texas heat with the door open, so the Keltec 380 is no bother, nor the spare mag.  Of course when I leave the house, more substansial artillery is adorned.
My shop has two gun safes, lots, I mean lots of expensive reloading exquipment besides other tools and equipment.  I work graveyard hours mostly, I'm sure the word gets out.  You get the drift.

This just got me to thinking.  You're armed when you go out and about because you never know when or where things can happen.  What about going to your mailbox?  Or taking out the trash late at night when the vermin are out?  Or even answering the door when it is not dark out and you are not expecting anyone?

Because of my habits I never feel at ill ease when that old beat up truck drives slowly through my white collar neighborhood with a bunch of guys looking like meth heads fresh out of jail and I am standing in the street at my mail box or trash can.

Anyone else carry "excessively" ?

I guess I would put myself in that same category, although I don't consider it excessive. In the past year there have been two daylight home invasions within 25 miles of my house which served as a stunning wake-up call to my wife who previously wondered why I am always armed even at home. You never can know in advance and if you aren't always prepared to deal with it you'll never have the time to prepare.

I rarely go anywhere that I am not armed; most commonly when I am not it's for legal reasons. My R9 is the firearm of choice when deepest concealment is an important factor.

I would not call it excessive, just prepared! :)

As do I.  I keep a Seecamp .32 in my pocket, or the R9 depending on the clothing and have, as well, larger "artillery" available in strategic places in my home.  Situational awareness is difficult when you are in your home...reaction time is limited if someone kicks in a door or window, or drives up when you are at the mailbox or laying tile in an outbuilding, etc.  There is a weapon in my car when I'm in it, usually something .38 or above, and a pocket or hip pistol usually as well.  I can't carry a weapon into the hospital, which makes no sense to me since the nutcases ignore the signs, leaving the staff pretty much defenseless (several episodes of brandishing in the past several years, but no shots fired so far).  My Seecamp is engraved "Marte Suo Tutus" which is my family clan motto and translates: "safe by my own effort."  I don't feel paranoid, just prepared.

I carry "24/7" as Reinz has described it, being unarmed only when I am in a courthouse or some other location where having a firearm is forbidden by law. In the latter situations, my firearm(s) is/are secured in my automobile. At home, I am never without a firearm on my person or literally within arms reach. I consider that to be prudent, not excessive.

+1 for carrying 24/7.  I rarely go anywhere w/o a firearm and/or a side blade.  One never knows when the SH&@ will hit the fan!!

I'm always armed, it wouldn't help you if you don't have it with you.   Tom

Just like wearing your seat belt; it is only needed when you have an accident, but which time is that? On the other hand there is no fine for not wearing your gun, either.

+1 on 24/7. I even carry a Seecamp while doing yard work year round. I was starting to think I was a couple of degrees off TDC. I guess I am not alone.

My feelings perzactly.  Which is why I guess I made the post.

I put  "excessive" in quotes not because I really feel that I carry excessive, just that some folks may say so.

Like others have mentioned, I have weapons within arms reach no matter wear I am at in my shop.  Also in my home as well.

Glad to see others well prepared also.

Carry On!

I lived & grew up during the Baader-Meinhof/Red Brigade terrorist activity in Germany
1976 – injured & survived terrorist bomb attack (Baader-Meinhof) inside V Corp Headquarters building (Abrams Bldg) in Frankfurt, Germany
1991 – lived in Killeen when the Luby’s massacre Killeen/Fort Hood area took place
1993, Mar – came face to face (at my front door) with a teenager after he murdered one of my neighbors earlier that day (unbeknownst to me; another neighbor told me about it and I bought our first gun that evening) Killeen/Fort Hood area
2009, Nov – Major Hassan shooting spree on Fort Hood
2011, Jul – PFC Abdo terrorist plans Killeen/Fort Hood area

That is not counting all the other stuff that has happened locally and not so local.

And that is why I carry 24/7 where allowed.  Excessively?  NO.  Precautionary?  YES
One never knows when stuff will hit the fan…

I guess I should clarify a little, a couple of those (bomb & murderer) were face to face so to speak, otherwise I was just in the same general area/city.  Again, I would rather be prepared...
