New to forum and to R9... a couple questions

I am new to the Forum and to Rohrbaugh. My understanding is that the company sold in 2014 to someone who was planning to still produce the R9's but no longer does. Is that correct?

I may be getting an R9 that is not working properly. Is there anyone I can send it to, to have it looked at? My understanding is that it keeps having a failure to feed or maybe to fire.

Welcome. MOST people here, as all sites, are friendly, polite, and more than helpful. Remington bought Rohrbaugh and makes a plastic frame .380. I am unaware of them bringing the R9 back. IF they do I would bet it is also plastic frame, I have owned 'plastic guns' but life is too short deal with that crap.

It is probably a combination of cost, and lack of master gunsmiths keeping Remingtonn from the R9. I bought mine 30 days ago and just picked it up yesterday. After 45+ years shooting, and over 300 firearms, the only thing CLOSE I have ever seen is a $4500 Cabot .45.

As to mechanical issues others with more R9 experience will hopefully chime in.   

The designers, engineers, and builders of the Rohrbaugh are all members here. They built a MASTERPIECE of engineering but are enjoying a well deserved retirement. If only you, or I , could leave a legacy like this.

p.s. use Winchester Silvertip, or regular Winchester HP ammo. DO NOT USE +P OR +P+ ammo, may damage firearm. I have also read of others using Tula ammo, won't fire because of the hard primers. With a gun like this don't cheap out on ammo. Stick with the regular Winchester.

Remington has bought out Rohrbaugh.  The warranty work ro R9's is handled by William's Gun Sites in Michigan.  Here is their website:

Failure to feed can be due to ammo the pup does't like...it is interesting that different pups have differing tastes in ammo but all require premium ammo.  Most here recommend Federal Gold Dots (124 for most, but others shoot 115 and 147).  Federal Lawman is good practice ammo engineered to reproduce the JHP Gold Dots.  Others like Federal HST pretty well.  Check the ammo threads on the forum.

Other considerations:
1.  It does best when cleaned and lubed regularly after shooting.  Let it cool a bit between magazines.
2.  Do NOT use +P ammo.
3.  The grip screws get loose pretty much after each range shoot...always tighten them, the right side in particular since that grip holds some items in place and when loose the gun doesn't function well.
4.  If the firing pin retainer is loose the slide speed is impeded and feeding is an issue.  There was a thread on this with pictures in the past, but I can't find it right now.  Williams should be able to fix this, but you might not be able to count on their diagnosing it, so use a toothpick or small probe to see if it shifts or rotates to the right.
5.  You may need a fresh spring...they are good for at least 200 rounds.
6.  See if only one magazine causes problems...might need a spring in that case.

This is an incredible pistol, but requires pampering and practice.  Good luck.  Shoot well!

As always EXCELLENT, useful info. One question. Where would you get extra mag springs? Got my extra recoils on Wolff but no mag listing. My gun is 99.9% new and I have 3 mags BUT I still like extra springs. Thanks

Watch what you pay. I got a 99.9% condition with box, papers, 2 mags for $900 plus shipping. IF you don't get a good deal on the one you are looking at wait. and keep a eye on G-broker. REALISTIC priced R9's do show up, to be honest I was willing to go to $1200 if I had to. They really are worth it.

Extra mags, on G-broker are $100 so watch how many you get.

To remove the mag you push UP on the mag base  while moving the release........took me 60 minutes to figure that out.

Kevin, you mentioned the RM380 is a plastic frame. It is not, it is a 7075 Aluminum frame (But MIM, not CNC from solid billets like our R9 was). That is all I see. . . . Everything else stands as stated in both threads. Carry on now guys, you're doing fine, as always. Ha haa . . . . .
