RJ

Looks like you are suffering from not enough R9's  ::) to properly display your fine holsters. Maybe, like me you're waiting for that "stealth" R9.

Really great looking holsters.

BTW, I received your takedown tool several weeks ago and never properly acknowleged it or thanked you; it's perfect.

I am surprised to hear that it is rare to have both in one order, because today I received the pair (1 right hand, 1 left hand) of standard, older style Hedley pocket holsters i ordered, along with the spare magazine pouch.

I went with the older style because my pockets vary considerably in size, and I wanted minimum bulk.  My pocket guns serve as primary weapons, on my strong side, some of the time, and as backup guns, on the weak side, at other times.

For those of you who don't have a Hedley holster, the side facing away from the body is totally flat, with a slight curve to match the shape of a leg, to minimize printing.  The side against the body appears to be very nicely and rigidly molded.  The top of the inside extends relatively high up, and is reinforced, which appears to make it an effective thumb push off (was this the intent?).  The outside is unreinforced for maximum thinness.

The magazine pouch is well made, and frankly is nicer than some that I have paid a lot more money for.

Unfortunately it will be a few months before my Rohrbaugh comes in, so it will be awhile before I can try the holsters with the gun.

I tried several different pocket holsters from 4 top makers.

RJ's was and is the best of breed IMO. His thumb push-off works the best for me.

I like the standard model for jeans and find the deluxe works well for larger pocket sizes, So, I have one of each.

There is another potential good purpose for the new larger style.

My North American Arms Guardian .380 has Novak tritium sights, which I think are the best sights offered for this gun, but which have a sharp top edge.  This, plus the weight of the gun, can wear a hole in a pocket within only a few days.  I tried rounding the corners, which helped, but not much.  I couldn't do anything to the top edge without getting too close to the tritium inserts and without risking lowering my point of impact.

What finally solved the problem was a holster style that places something between the pocket and the sight.  Right now I am using a Ron Graham Maverick, and the anti-print panel has worked wonders to preserve the useful life of my pants.  However, the holster is a bit wider on the bottom than is ideal, and this can cause the holster to fit in the pocket on an angle with a smaller pocket.  This in turn pushes the front sight more into the pocket fabric.  It also adds more bulk than I think is ideal for a gun that I carry to minimize bulk to begin with.

RJ's Merlin design just might have enough of a forward projection to keep the pocket fabric away from the front sight, without having enough to be counterproductive by tipping the rear sight towards the fabric.  I haven't tried it so I don't know, but the dimensions listed on his website look promising.

If you can send me a good profile Photo of that NAA 380 w/ Novac's,  I feel I can place the top of your sights right even with the upper most part of the Reinforced Top  band to shield those Sights.  Also must have a formed Sight Trac.

Hi RJ,

Thanks for letting me know that you can customize one of your holsters in this manner.

Unfortunately, there is one other wear point:  the bottom front corner of the grip.  Although this doesn't wear holes in pockets quite as quickly as the front sight, it will still put a hole in a pocket if not covered by a piece of leather.

I think the ultimate solution to the problem will be the eventual arrival of my Rohrbaugh, which will shave about 6 oz. of weight and not require custom sights, eliminating two problems at once.
