Now that you've had your R9, and holstered it
« on: August 04, 2005, 07:44:26 AM »
There are a lot of you R9 owners that have been carrying your guns for sometime now.
I would like an update on the holsters you have been using, such as IWB, or OTB,  manufacturere, etc. and what works best for you.
I like front pocket carry for my small snub, and Seecamp, but on occassion I like IWB with the snub.
I have spoken to RJ about little spots that appear on the Seecamp slide after months of pocket carry in a leather holster.I thought it was from the acid in the leather.
That's not a real bother to me, but the mode of carry  you prefer would be of interest to me.
I don't have my R9 yet, but should have it by summer's end.

Thanks.

So other will know what I told Chameleon,   these spots I have seen on one of my own pistols, appear to be "burnish Spots"  They come from the polishing the leather gives the Stainless Steel,  this  can be undone by careful rubbing the whole area  with "grey" Scotch Brite"  Being careful to move in a STRAIGHT line with the slide.. Called a satin brush finish,  just like the pistol has when new..

:oPocket carry the R9 and overtime the leather inside will smoth out slick where the gun rubs it. Get two R9's and keep one perfect to look at but don't worry about the character the other gains from daily carry for it is but a tool to someday maybe save your life. ::)

With a pistol as small as the Rohrbaugh, I prefer to carry it in the pocket.  Some other Forum members have reported using an IWB holster to carry their Rohrbaughs.

Concerning the minor amount of inevitable "holster wear" attendant to daily carry of a Rohrbaugh, I agree with Newt -- and I tend to be a little bit obsessive/compulsive when it comes to my firearms.

As for removing those burnish marks on a stainless steel gun, my solution has been to use Brasso, followed by a light coat of Flitz Rifle/Gun Wax.  (I don't think I've been without a can of Brasso since "Basic" more than 40  ??? years ago.)

;) I fully understand the anguish of the first mark on the "new baby",  but it is only a tool !  ;D

It reminds me of a guy with the Blackwood Lincoln SUV/ pick up truck not wanting to place anythng in the bed..  I have had my share of nice pickups and know that feeling also.   ;D [but not with a Blackwood]

chameleon,
I carry mine in an HBE Leatherworks pocket holster.  It is the style with a large flap that folds around and disguises the shape of the gun, such that it prints like a wallet.  The holster was originally made for a S/W-Walther PPK/S but it fits the R9S well enough.  I've carried it daily for maybe 9   months so far, and no noticible wear on the slide or frame.

No offense intended to RJ or others making pocket holsters for the Rohrbaugh, of course.  I just happened to have the HBE on hand, and it works.  Whenever RJ gets caught up enough I'll probably order one of his.

If I were to carry IWB (which I do) I'd carry my Officer-sized 1911 rather than the Rohrbaugh, since it takes the same amount of effort to conceal it.

I've considered a shoulder holster also, but most of the ones I've seen are WAY bulkier than the R9S, so what's the point?  Maybe a chamois leather pouch, a la James Bond with his Beretta .25 would work, but I haven't tried it yet.

Just my very humble opinion   :)

Albert:

Welcome to the Forum . . . finally[/b] . . . since it would appear that you have owned and been carrying your Rohrbaugh for the past nine months.   :)

It's a good group here, and the Administrator keeps a close watch.

As for a Hedley holster, I own several.  Do I recommend them?  Absolutely!  To paraphrase Lee Iacocca, "If you can find a better holster, buy it."

Thanks for the welcome, guys!  I've been lurking here for quite some time.  It just took me a while to get around to registering, and then posting.

Hi Guys, and thanks for the replies.
I'm not that worried about my guns outward appearance as it might appear. I too go by the premis that these are tools, and tools get dings, and scratches, and so be it. However, my pocket gun is pretty much just that, and it resides there just about 24/7. I often take my pocket carry piece out and clean and lube it, change out the ammo, and rotate the mag, and back in the holster it goes.

Basically, I just wanted to hear from you what holster you have been happiest with. Most use a pocket holster, as I may end up doing. Not sure yet. Once I get the R9, I will have to give it a try.
Thanks again.
