Malfunction with Ammo
« on: September 14, 2005, 02:13:45 PM »
I have put about 70 rounds through my Rs # 8xx.  The first 50 or so consisted of Blazer and Winchester White box and an assortment of Federal 9BP.  Not a hitch at all.  Today I tried Remington Golden Saber and had two rounds fail to go off on the first strike, but going off on the second in each case.  Has anyone had this experience with this cartridge or others?  I certainly will not carry this round  :-/anymore, and will empty the Rs as soon as I get home, reloading with 9BP's.

HiCap:
I've fired one magazine of Golden Sabers without problems.  The other premium rounds I've tried, the recommended Speer GDHP (in 115, 124 & 147 grain), & Federal HydraShok 124 grain, worked fine.  I'm sticking with the Speer GDHP in 115 gr. for carry.

UMC practice ammo in 124 gr. FMJ has given me some problems.  Feeding was fine, but the primers seemed very hard.  First time thru, I got only shiny spots on two rounds.  Recycled them about 20 (nervous) minutes later.  They both fired.  I'll use the balance up in practice and switch to another brand like the Winchester White Box rounds you fired.

Thanks; I an order in for two boxes of the GD's, 115 gr.  Now I'm carrying the Federal 9BP's for now.

HiCap - welcome aboard :)

My memory being crap these days i forget some of my test results - but if you have time go visit my mini site - R9 FAQ (see my sig line) and on left are buttons linking to test data I did - albeit not super scientific.

I recall not liking the Golden Saber too much tho don't think any failed to go bang!!  I certainly stick with GD's .... 115's are good but currently I have just 124's.
