I went and did it !
« on: September 20, 2005, 12:28:45 AM »
Well the local gun shops in my area finally got  a new supply of R9's. I happen to be driving by and thought I'd see what new things came in.  Sure enough there were 10 new R9's in the case.  After pondering what to do and of course trying out a bunch of them, in walks a fellow and he says, Hey! you gonna buy one of those ?.  I told him I was considering it.  He says its a great idea, and proceeds to pull one out of his pocket and tell me how great it is.  If I didn't know any better I would think he was the owners shill, because 10 minutes later I plunk down my deposit and buy one.  Of course I have to wait for the paperwork to go thru before I take possesion, but I think it will be worth the wait.  Of course how do I explain it to the wife, but that is for another thread.

Way to go, cc1.

You absolutely did the correct thing.

I told my wife it was heirloom quality, so she was good to go, being an antique collector.

I hope you enjoy it very much.

When you say you tried out a bunch of them, do you mean the shop owner let you shoot them?

Congratulations!  You won't regret it.

As for explaining it to your wife, just tell her that you want to have the very best pistol available to protect her and that she deserves it.   ;D

Or, you can do what I did and just not say anything.

That's always my approach.  To my wife, most guns pretty much look alike, so she never really knows what's coming in, and she is way too smart to ask.  :D

I've been guilty of tricks like that.

For example, one small black gun can look like another small black gun.

I really don't have any problems here, but really don't want to get any problems, either.

You know what I mean?

I know what you mean, Bill.

Around here, whenever I bring home a new gun, my dearly beloved examines it carefully and gives me an enigmatic little smile.  That tells me she will soon balance the scales by spending as much or more money on some acquisition of her own.  By way of recent example, my new R9s = her new leather couch.   :o

Well in miraculous time, 24 hours, the judge signed off on the new pistol - yes the county judge has to sign an affadavit to be presented to the FFL for each pistol purchase.  But I picked it up today, Friday.  Sunday morning its time to take it to the range.
Now as for the wife, I told her about my new purchase, and when she asked about the price, well, I changed the subject.

Now here's a technical question.  Should I strip it down, clean it, and relubricate it before shooting it, or do folks shoot it straight out of the box?

cc1,

Where in the heck do you live.  No wonder the court is backed up taking time to make a decision on each gun.  What a power trip.

Some strip the gun first to see how it is lubed.  Probably most just go out and shoot it.   When you do let us know how it goes.  Stay with speer gold dots.

Some who get it right away rush out to shoot it without the recommended ammo good dots.  Then for many it may mean james.

The pup is supposed to come lubed from the factory..Mine have been!! Rack the slide and you should be able to see the grease on the barrel..

I too would like to know where one has to get a Judge to ok the handgun buy!!I always thought my state of Mi was bad in having to have a "safety check" re Registration.. >:(

The State of New York, is where they control your gun purchases.  Every county has its own rules.  Some counties make you renew your permit every few years, others do not.  I my Upstate New York county every handgun purchase must be signed off by the judge.  You must go to get the form in person, and then the County Clerk types it onto your permit and gives you a form to give to the FFL.  If you have a pistol that is not listed on your permit, it the same crime as if you had a pistol with no permit at all.
Luckily, even though the procedure is a pain, the judges are very pro 2nd ammendment and unless you have a DWI, or Domestic complaints there is never a problem getting them to sign off.  It could be worse.  I could live in NYC where nobody but politically connected folks get any permit.

That said, I will report on my range time in the next day or two.
