Well, R.J., what began as a small "pothole" in the driveway entrance of my shop has evolved into an Abyss of undetemined depth.
A flock of geese has taken to it now and it is unknown what may inhabit it's depths.
(I know a box cutter blade did as it found it's way into my son's van tire causing an instant blowout, >:( as he ignored repeated warnings to avoid the "pond"....or Pless Lake, as it is also called.)

My landlord refuses to fill it, so it's size continues to increase.

If you come by, please avoid that entrance and use the west entrance, which is free of ponds, lakes, lagoons, etc.

I would post a picture of it with the geese swimming in it but those pics are at the shop. (I'll put one up tomorrow.)

This is out his front door-towards the Pit-Pond-Abyss. ;)
I have not seen it with water in it-just a GREAT drop in elevation. :D

The geese make a great addition as fall is coming and hunting season will be upon us!! :)

By Heaven, that is my kind of pond -- Canada geese in residence and Old Glory flying in the background!

John:

When you get tired of the geese, please send them to me here in East Tennessee.  I would love to have them in residence on my pond.

Richard S,

Be careful what you ask for...  I had a flock of them in Birnigham and they were a mess!  Imagine 40-60 large dogs dropping piles frequently on a walking trail around the pond --  that's what you'll get with a flock of geese.  Nothing more than eating flying pooping machines....
I'm not a gun expert -- but I did stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night...

Nice pond Richard :)

Let me add to Fly's post - last year we had those buggers in huge numbers, having their start-of-day pre-flight briefing, on our model airplane flying strip - darned poop everywhere!!!!

Also where I lived before, three years back, which had a superb big pond - they took the damn place over!!  It was not fun!

Careful what you ask for !!  :P

Thanks for posting the pic, Brenden. The water level has gone up a bit after all that rain we just had.
I know about their pooping prowess.
Looks like a minefield around the pond now and all the way to the mailbox. :P

(Our neighbors across the street raise and lower Old Glory every day, too, Richard.)  :)

Thanks, guys, for the reminder about the "daily deposits" of Canada geese.  I remember that now from my goose hunting days on Maryland's Eastern Shore.

I had given some passing thought to putting a pair of Canadas on the pond as guards for the mallard ducks.  As it is, between the coyotes ambushing the nesting hens at night and the raccoons eating their eggs, the flock is dwindling.    >:(

I just love this forum!
Richard, great picture of a really pretty pond. And I love the mallards. Have to find a way to save the flock from the coyotes and the raccoons. I'm sure someone on the forum will have an idea or two. RJ is a Wizard and Fly & Scuba or Tom from The IrishGuard can find out everything about anything! As a last resort we'll wait for DDGator or R-9Scarry to scope it out.
Brendan, looks bad, pal! maybe a bridge.....!

Mike:

At the risk of taking this thread even farther off topic (it started, after all, as a discussion of "mismatch's" new Rohrbaugh), we actually managed to catch one of the culprits on film recently.  (You can almost see the egg yolk on the little bandit's face.)

The answer is late night vermin hunting. Use a good light with a red lens and a small caliber rifle. Maybe a call or two. And the magic word....patience...     Tom

You see, I knew Tom would come through!! He is absolutely the "GO TO" guy. Everyone on this forum is as nice, friendly, and helpful as could be! It's pretty easy to make some good friends here. I know I have. Let me know how you make out.

Well, ....... seeing as how I initiated this post and it got around to " Pest & Ponds"  I guess I should probably enter my two-cents into this discussion!

Aside from the " snapping turtles", " muskrats" "coyotes,
" geese," ..... messy geese ...  tons of "ducks,"" deer", and these " critters"  it is all I can do to not step into a mess, I have special boots that the wife makes me leave in the garage!! ( after they are washed down)  And ...oh yes, I forgot the squirrels, and raccoons that tear up the insulation in my barn
