Difference in Rohrbaugh's Pistols?
« on: October 29, 2006, 09:48:26 AM »
Hello all. I am new to this forum and had just a few questions. I am very interested in an r9s and have found some great info from all of you here so far. My questions really involve cosmetics. I've seen pics of the r9s in a few different configurations. Stainless slide with black frame. Stainless slide with silver frame. Of coarse the new stealths are all black. And then a variation of the grips. Some with carbon fiber and some with G-10. What are the differences and/or advantages (if any) of these different configurations? I really want to find one that is stainless and silver with carbon fiber grips. Or stainless and black with carbon fiber grips. These are my first thoughts. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Here is what I think I know,

The first models were stainless top and silver bottom with carbon fiber grips that from what I gather had a few different slight color variations.  They were black but might have a tinge of blue etc.

The next older models were stainless top with black or some see it as grey bottoms and had the same carbon fiber grips.

The next change was the G-10 grip to both the standard R9 and the Stealth.  You can't get the carbon fiber grips anymore.  The Stealth finish is not the same as the dark finish on the standard R9.

So to get what you want you will have to get one that is already in someone's hands.  It won't be available from the factory.

I like th Carbon Fiber grips better but the G-10 grips are just fine.  I am sure this change was made to reduce production costs.

At first I did not really like the Stealth but It is my carry gun now.  I recomend you go with the Stealth for a carry gun.

Thanks Brendon,

So there were actually 3 different frame colors besides the Stealth.  From your pictures I don't see a shiney frame.  It looks to me like a light grey, a darker grey and a very dark grey or black frame.  You have got to get a Stealth to finish your collection.   Anyone know what Rohrbaugh's reasoning for the blue CF grips was?

The very early-without the R prefix, are considered "early Gray anodized" (I believe there were 46 made if I recall correctly)

They had to start putting the R on due to the BATFE I believe..

The Blue CF grips are beautiful, and were on the "early" models before the Black CFs..I was told by Karl that there were 300 sets of blue grips made (my favorite)Wish I could find another set!! ;)

The blue grips "sparkle" in the sunlight!! ;D

Ohhh,a stealth model is probably in my future, but I am very interested in the Farmingdale "Era" pups!! 8)

Because of carbon fibers no longer being plan to be used in production, the collectors of these pistols are and will be in higher demand.
