Purchased a new R9 this past fall and went through approximately 95 rounds of Gold Dot 115 and 124 grain (124 grain is $3 cheaper per box of twently). First eighty rounds, no problem. The last two range sessions, the second round jams and ends up nose up. I tried calling Rohrbaugh today but they're out until Monday. I do know this. 115 and 124 grain Gold Dots were feeding fine. When I first purchased the R9, I hand cycled a mag of each through. No problems. I than loaded the mag with 147 grain Gold Dots and could not hand cycle the round into the chamber. Should I just send it in to the factory for warranty work, or wait and call on Monday. Thanks. Jim

Welcome to the forum...

Just a couple of questions?

I assume after the 80 rounds the pup was cleaned and lubed?

The last session was with 115s and 124s too,or was it with the 147s?

Please try the STHP 115s if you have them available,if all is as it should be-they should feed..

IMO, I do not feel hand cycling, represents the true ability of a round to be able to cycle, at the forces that occur with actually firing the load..

The Bros R will answer any questions you have and will take care of your pup-no worry..

I've actually had four range sessions with the R9 (serial #R9xx). I tried hand cycling the 147 grain during my first range session and dropped that option quickly. The gun has been cleaned three times. It is remarkably accurate for it's size and I'm hoping this "problem" is correctable.

Is it both mags that you are having a problem with?

3 times cleaned in a 100 rounds-you are a better man than "most"

I am a 50-60 round lube guy!!

I assume you do the Superlube,oil regimen as in the FAQ thread..

If it is doing it with both mags and with the same "lot" of ammo that fed well before,I would still try the STHP as these seem to feed well with all pups..

Anything possibly "skehawed" with your recoil spring? It can be a bear sometimes to get in correctly..?

Shoot- Mine have all went bang and ate pretty much what I fed them,so I am just throwing out things that you probably already have thought of!!

Hope you get it figured out soon,as the pup is a wonderful companion..

Yes. Both mags. I should disassemble it and check the recoil spring (cleaning session #4), although, I doubt that's the problem. I did not have a chance to call the factory today. I may take it out for one more session and see what happens.

It was my under standing from the factory that 147gr ammo was problematic and 124 or 115gr were recommended. I have used 124gr Gold Dots in my two R9's and have had no problems. :-/

I agree with Newt. Why look for problems trying the 147 gr. You said you had no problems with both 115 and 124 gr GD up to about 80 rounds. What is wrong with that?

Yes indeed, I would avoid in fact any ammo that seems less than ideal function-wise. The heavier bullet is of course a shade larger and even if OAL close to 115 and 124 offerings, the difference could be enough to matter.

Never any harm in checking mags tho unlikely to be a problem - but good to know all internally is free and follower has no hang-ups.

The ftf has occured with 115 and 124 gr Gold Dot. I tried hand cycling the 147 grain during my very first range session and after it would not feed, never tried again. The ftf have occured over my last two sessions using the Gold Dot 115 and 124 grain.

I'll change the recoil spring this weekend and give it a another try. I've also cleaned and checked the mags after each range session and noted nothing unusual.

Ironically, I was seriously considering selling off my Kahr P9 Covert, but I may hang onto it for awhile. I purchased it new several years ago and have had no issues with different ammo brand or bullet weights, although, based other forum activity, there may be issues with newer polymer production Kahr's.

Until this issue is resolved, the R9 is a safe queen and/or headed back to the factory depending on what happens this weekend.

Update: In early December I called Rohrbaugh to get a mailing address and they recommended I try their new mag springs before shipping the R9. Received the springs and used up a box of 124 gr Gold Dot (twenty to a box). Much to my surprise, no ftf, no misfeeds. Brought it home, disassembled, cleaned, and lubed with grease. Next week or so, I'll another forty rounds at the range. So far, the R9 is living up to expectations.

Crossing my fingers and hoping the next range session is "uneventful." It was puzzling having the R9 functioning perfectly the first few range sessions and than suddenly have issues. I'm hoping the new mag springs have cured "my problems" (R9 related that is).
