New mag springs?

Did they redesign the magazine springs?

If so, does anyone know around what serial number they started shipping the newer design?

I have a newer one but seem to have alot of ftf.  It is still brand new with only 12 rounds fired but about every other round woulf ftf.  I was using Speer GD 115 gr.

You might want to order some new stronger mag springs from Rohrbaugh.  It sounds as though that is a possible fix for the feeding problems.

Push down the follower of an empty mag.  If is seems "limp" or little resistance, I'd say you have the old springs. My method is not very scientific, but it works.   The new extra power springs make the mags much more difficult to push the follower in the same fashion.

If you've ever felt the mag spring pressure on a Kahr PM9 the extra power R9 springs feel exactly the same. In fact, before I found this forum and learned of the extra power springs from Rohrbaugh, I was about to swap in a PM9 mag spring and give it a try.  I'd rather use the right part though, which I did, and couldn't be more pleased with the results.

My R9 would FTF on every round fed from the magazine with "old" or stock springs (SN about 1450+/-), with the new extra power ones it's now 100% on WW Silvertip 115 gr and WWB 115 gr ball.  What a difference $8 (well, per mag) made!

Please wear safety glasses or your shooting glasses   when installing your new springs - they can get away from you real quick.

I guess the obvious question I now have is how much does a new set of mags cost compared to buying two new springs and two new followers.

I want to make it clear I've had no problems, have not shot it yet, but my first impression was that the magazine springs are too weak for reliable operation. And comparing them to my Kahr MK9 magazines confirms this suspicion to me. I don't really want to drive 20 miles to the range and back to try it out knowing I will probably have some problems.

I did carry my Rohrbaugh today, with 6 rounds of Winchester Whitebox. Yes without having shot it, just to get a feel for it in the pocket. What a difference over the MK9! So much easier to carry in kaki's. I recommend pleated ones though if you go that route, it aids a little bit with concealment.

I'm starting to think I may not need to get a rubber slip on grip for the gun. It almost seems like, as your hands get sweaty from holding it, the grip improves with the blue CF grips. At least that was my impression.

Very different from my MK9 which is slippery as a greased pig without some skateboard tape or one of the slip on grips.

I might end up adding some aid to the grip though once it gets really hot out. We'll see..

New mags are 34.95 ea. plus shipping.  New mag springs are 8.00 ea. plus shipping.  I just got mine yesterday and put them in and thanks to Craigt, Jimacp,Seven and Tequilamockingbird for their recent posts concerning the soft springs in the old version and the new extra strength version.
