For any of you folks with failure to feed problems and have not gotten the message…GET THE NEW MAGAZINE SPRINGS!!!
I have had all the FTF problems. Tried all the solutions, various ammo, “limp wristing”, etc. Just was not comfortable carrying. About 450 rounds total and averaging about 1 FTF per mag. In January I ordered the new mag springs and was able to get to the range last week.
Total joy (almost). First two mags (6+1 and 6) finished off my last Spear Gold Dot 115 gr. with no FTF. Next two mags (6+1 and 6+1) Winchester Ranger 147 gr. with no FTF. Last two mags (6+1 and 6+1) Spear Gold Dot 124 gr. (I asked for 115 gr. but this is what the salesperson gave me & I didn’t check until I was loading up) first round of each made the mag become unlatched and drop down enough to not chamber round 2. Only the first round, only 124 gr. Spear GD.
Anyone else have this happen? I am fairly sure (but not absolutely positive) that my finger or hand did not push on the latch but I just can’t imagine the shock forces alone moving the latch. Comments, thoughts most welcomed.
By the way, when replacing the mag spring, make sure the bottom plate that pushes on the spring (sorry, don’t know the proper terminology) has sufficient upward bend on the front portion so that it hits the inside of the magazine. Otherwise even though it is locked into the bottom sliding cover, both pieces can slide off. You ask how do I know this? Well, I was showing my son that you should always check every part for proper function and not just trust that if it looks ok then it is ok. So after assembling it I pushed on the bottom sliding cover and to my surprise it launched across the room. Find all pieces and reassemble. Test again but more carefully. Boing. Re-find all pieces and re-reassemble. Test again but even more carefully. Boing. Re-re-find all pieces, bend plate just a bit and re-re-reassemble. Test again. No boing. Ok, I was a little embarrassed but much better to find out in the shop than when really needed.
Oh, have I mentioned GET THE NEW MAG SPRINGS yet?
