My R9s has had a few light strikes, BUT they were only with Remington ammo. My carry ammo at this time is standard Winchester white box JHP, $12 @ my LGS for 50 round boxes!

Where is that? That same ammo is $7.00 a box at Academy
in Houston.

Sorry, my mistake; I overlooked the JHP and thought it was
WWB ball ammo.

Well, I finally tried the silver tips-115g.-worked flawlessly so far. Although I only tried 3 magfulls, I am feeling a little more confident in the gun. None of us want to carry a piece we are not 100% confident in! The primer dents seemed much deeper than with other ammo-they must be softer. I took the gun down and reassembled it without tools-only a pin punch. Piece of cake! For those getting beat up by recoil, throw a tight fitting glove on (O.J.style),and you can shoot all day pain free. I want to like this gun and I may be getting closer!  I"ll keep you posted and thanks again for your help....Steve

Great news Artec
Find what goes bang and stick with it. Silver Tips are a great load for the R9. Karl used to use them himself. Early on 115,GDHP & STHP were the "preferred loads"---defensive ammo with the greatest chance of success in "problem R9's .
Once most R9 owners find the ammo that works best in their pistols  and they have confidence in its  reliability they carry and clean it often, but they don't shoot it very much since it wasn't designed as a high round shooter.

artec:

Thanks for the good report.  It sounds like your "thoroughbred" may be about ready for the track.

While I do believe they have softer primers, I really do not like Silvertips, I have seen too much bad performance by them out of short barrels. I've also had dud Silvertips. Struck hard, but no ignition. Both of those things have turned me off of them forever.

I plan on using standard pressure Gold Dots in 124gr. unless something better comes along before I get around to buying a few boxes. I'll probably be carrying my new R9 with Winchester White Box target ammo until I get around to buying some Gold Dots since all I have for defensive ammo around here for my 9's is 127gr. +P+ Ranger and some 124gr. NATO (which is +P).

Hey again everyone. Made another trip to the range. I ran 70 rounds of 115g. silver tips through the pup without one malfunction. The range officer could't believe I was hitting the paper at 30' let alone in the 10 ring! Then I got cocky and tried some s&b ball again, 2 lps's in 5 rounds. Never again. I'm going to try some win. w.b. for less expensive practice ammo next trip,as per all of your reports..thanks. I am strapping the pup on every day since I got back from the range and gave her a well deserved bath and a tightening of the left grip panel! I don't blame you for not trusting ammo that didn't work for you PsycoSword but maybe it deserves 1 more try. I still think it's pathetic that we "get wood" when our R9's work the way they are supposed to! Hopefully our friends at Rohrbaugh perfect this nice little "9" to work perfectly out of the box. By the way, if any of you are from the NY metro area, you should visit the Coyne park indoor range in Yonkers (home of Kimber). Nice small(7 lane) inexpensive ,uncrowded range. Till next time....Steve

Threre's not much I can add to the excellent comments of Newt, Tracker, HKI, and Dave (MountainMan).  I've sometimes likened the R9s to thoroughbreds.  It sounds like you might have one of those few which initially prove to be a bit fractious. If you're patient with it and work with the factory as needed, I think you'll be able to get it ready for the races.
I hope you do.

I'm curious....  is each R9/R9S tested at the factory or are they spot checked?   Thanks.

First of all, welcome to the Forum, RB  -- or should I call you "Judge."   :D

As I understand it, every R9/R9S is test fired at the factory before going out the door. (It's a hard job, but someone has to do it.  ;) )
