Still Grinning From Ear to Ear
« on: May 26, 2010, 11:38:34 PM »
 ;D

I saw the black beauty R9s Stealth in a local store a few weeks ago.  I knew that one day she would be mine.  Yesterday, I boxed up my LCP with Crimson Trace and marched into the store with a number in mind.  A trade value was easily reached and I filled out my paperwork, paid my tab, and out the door we went.

So now the fun begins.  I know I would like a really nice holster for the pup, but I'm not going to rush that decision.  I can live with a Nemesis while I break her in.  I lucked into a DelFatti for my Seecamp, perhaps lightning will strike twice and I'll find a PH3 for the R9.

I need to read through the manual and maintenance documents tomorrow and attempt a cleaning.  I keep reading about recommended ammo.  I'm assuming that's listed in the manual since I have not found a specific thread about it.  Was planning on using standard pressure Gold Dot 124 grain since I have a bunch on hand.

I've been lurking on the board for several months and reading through the posts helped me decide to take the plunge on the R9.  You all have a nice forum going here.  I'm happy to be part of it now.

Welcome!

I also had an LCP before the R9, but instead of trading it in, now I have both.

Glad you're here!

I have several holsters for the R9, but the only leather pocket holster is an RJ Hedley.
You could look at MECO, I know you're familiar with him.He makes nice stuff, and he learned from RJ.

Ljutic.  Welcome to the Forum.  Congrats on acquiring the Stealth.  Post often and enjoy!  Certainly agree with the holster recommendation.

Ljutic:

Welcome to the Forum! You've obviously already done quite a bit of homework. Now it's time to read through the manual, get personally acquainted with your new R9, and begin to enjoy ownership of what I consider to be the finest pocket pistol on the planet.

Ljutic, welcome to Rohrbaugh Land and congrats on the stealth. I've seen you on the Seecamp forum a lot and it's great to have you over here as well. Holsters? I pretty much stick with Meco, I've never bought a new holster from anyone else. Tho I have a few from other makers that I've bought used. Again welcome, post often.   Gene

Welcome.

The 124 gr. Gold Dots should work fine.  Quite a few on here use them.

Fiocchi hollow pts are a good practice round.  They are only a couple bucks more than the PMC's and Remmington FMJ but they are more reliable.  Remmington's had a lot of double/triple strikes.  PMC's were ok but didn't cycle as smoothly as Fiocchi's.  Fiocchi's cycled flawlessly but I probably wouldn't use them for a carry round unless I didn't have access to any other hollow points.

Well, it's all cleaned and lubed and ready for the range, but with the holiday and family plans it will be next week before I have a chance to try out the pup.

Tear down was a snap, but reassembly was a learning process.  I kept pulling the slide back too far when reinserting the pin and the spring plunger would hang up on the barrel.  Once I saw what was up, it was an easy problem to get past.

I must have ham hands, because I didn't need to use any tools to get it all back together.  Wheee!!!!  Actually, getting the recoil spring back in was easier than the battle I usually have with my Mustang Pocket Lite.

Aside from the rough rifling in the barrel, this gun is top notch in manufacturing quality.  It's really a marvel.

Waiting to try it out is a hard task in itself.  I recently had to do that with a Seecamp .380.  Just couldn't get to the range.

Sounds like you had a good experience with the takedown process.  Glad everything went well.  Enjoy the range!
