New R9 Model for 2011

Well, the title of this thread is quite a tease...

As I revealed in a new thread about the status of the R45, the factory has confirmed there will be a new Rohrbaugh R9 model in time for SHOT 2012.

More than that, I cannot say.  I doubt you could guess this one, but I am sure you will all try.

How about a silver or hard chrome frame and a Stealth slide?  Or checkered frontstrap and backstrap?  Or better yet, all the above.

Steel frame, checkerd, safety, slide stop, conventional mag release and built in lazer.

OR

plastic R9




PS.  I think I read more about this on a NY forum a few weeks back.  I'll look.

After some more reading on that forum i'll make another guess.

could it be the " “full-sized” R9 Series 9mm pistol" that a select few at the 2010 shot show got to see?


Might be interesting!  Can't wait to see what they have come up with.


Maybe a double stack?

Just my thoughts but making an entirely new model 9mm (full size) would be as time consuming as making a 45 caliber model and would generate less interest.
  I think it will be a variation of the current model which is much easier to do.

All I know is if they introduce a special edition with checkering on the front & back straps, I'll be first in line! I have a question for some of the more experienced owners. How long does it usually take for a run of one of their special editions like the Roar or Elite to sell out?

The Robar and Elite were not special editions, although there was a Premium Elite, that was offered and only 16 were made.   The Robar and Elite were discontinued on Rohrbaugh's decision, and not based on a sell out.

That being said, it would be really hard to tell, when or if, a new model of the R9 would end, once produced.

My interest in the R9 is that it is the smallest, lightest 9mm semi-auto that works reliably and consistently.

I personally am not interested in a .45 ACP in the same form factor because that's too much punishment to my hand - that's just  me.

If Rohrbaugh made a 9mm in a slightly larger form factor, it would just put that pistol in the category of Kahr MK9/CM9/PM9 - Kimber Solo, Boberg XR9-S, LC9 et all.  I would be evaluating the larger Rohrbaugh 9mm against the original R9 and probably settle on the R9 for carry.

As you know, I am sworn to secrecy on these things.  However, I make two observations based upon experience and not secret knowledge...

1)  A bigger R9 wouldn't really be an R9, and would be a new model that would create many of the same problems as introducing a new R45 model.

and

2) A .40 caliber pistol would not, by definition, be an R9 -- it would be an R40.  For the record, I have never heard the R-bros speak of an R40.
