R9 Grips
« on: July 17, 2010, 08:17:55 PM »
OK...here is the first run of R9 grips in cocobolo. They are "ready for install". I.E. relieved on the back in the proper place and screw holes positioned and c-sunk.

These in cocobolo should hold up well based upon other types I have done in this wood. Its pretty hard stuff and due to the higher polish, they should be relatively impervious to sweat and moisture. I also think they will not have to be CA'd on tha back side for stiffness or protection from oils as long as they are not "soaked" in oils or solvents.

So without further ado...here ya go....(photos "left large" for detail)

Beautiful work, Tom; especially just south of Haleakala.

Thanks...they will inevitably get better and faster to make with time when we work all the bugs out.

We are awaiting the blue CF material but if any perps want grips in other materials, just let me know.

Richard: When you get back, give me shout in regards to "Ivory"

These "prototypes" I have to decide what to do with yet. Maybe I should start a tease thread..... ;D..ah crap, that won't work, I already divulged the item..aarrrggh!

Being Brenden has my R9, :'(   I am currently "pupless" at the moment...and can't put them on a pup for photos...guess I need to go down to the shelter (gunshop) and find one.

Tom (P7).  Just wondering.  How did you make the grips without an R9.  You must have had a set to go by, right?

Photographic memory... ;D

No, actually a fine forum member here "hooked me up" with some factory originals to go by and in short order no less!

Tom, send them my way.  I have "a" R9 I could put them on and take some decent pictures of it for you.  That way you don't have to run around town looking for one.   ;D

O-yea, I forgot to tell you they look really good!  Can't wait to get um in CF!!!!!!

Are you going to experiment with any checkering?

P7 - those are real beauties!

You mentioned other materials; do you think you can get ahold of some Mastadon or Mammoth?

Enigma, how close are you to actually taking orders? I would love a set of black or really dark brown checkered wood grips. As soon as you can, please let us know what's available, price, and so on. Thanks, Gene     PS three of my four Rohrbaughs have factory grips, I would replace all of them.
