I think it does work pretty well. In a suit, you may have an issue because the waistbands are not too sturdy. Make sure you try it with a very good belt.
The Covert Carrier doesn't cover the trigger guard. Not a real problem in my opinion with the R-9, but it would be inappropriate with some guns. It also doesn't protect the finish of the gun. That may or may not be an issue for you.
Pocket carry in a suit is not necessarily easy because of the "hang" or the suit and the light fabric -- but its worth a try. If not, you could go with a good inside the waistband tuckable holster, or even a holster shirt.
