It just came and my oh my!
« on: June 09, 2005, 11:43:30 PM »
Oh my, must remember to breath…

Got the call Tuesday evening.  Left work a tad early Wednesday to pick it up.  The first handling is always a rush, this time a bit more so.  Deer Park slide marking.  How did I concentrate long enough to fill out the paperwork?  I must have paid him or he wouldn’t have let me leave the store with it.

When I got home and opened the box is when the real rush began.  Nothing, and I mean nothing, not all the eloquent and enthusiastic descriptions, discussion, praises and testimonials have prepared me for this encounter.  This R9S is the finest piece of craftsmanship I have ever seen or ever hope to see.  I appreciate fine design and craftsmanship.  I have known my share of very fine craftsmen, the best-of-the-best.  This tops them all.  This is just about as close to perfection as I can imagine.  One detail I often examine on machined parts to determine attention to detail is corner radiuses.  Especially the small delicate ones.  It is very difficult to make every radius exactly identical.  When I look at the R9 I see that all of the radiuses on the left are identical to the matching  radiuses on the right.  Exactly identical.

Many of you have reported how silky smooth the trigger action is.  All true.  The feed ramp is almost mirror smooth.  Not yet had the time to field strip it but I thinks I know what to expect.

I am wondering if I might be able to point the R9 without sights more quickly than the ‘S that I have.  Though I never got around to modifying my Colt 380 Pocket Lite I explored the idea of removing the sights and use the rounded top of the slide to sight on.  I believe that bringing the curve at the front of the slide in line with the curve at the back could be a quick and intuitive method especially with a bit of sight paint.

At any rate, anyone out there contemplating placing an order but are not sure because you have never held one and don’t want to commit the better part of a grand sight unseen, don’t hesitate a nanosecond longer.  All of you anxiously waiting (I waited since August) chill out, read this forum, savor the wait.  It is worth it.  (I haven’t even fired it yet!)  The shop must have done a good job of wiping off all of the finger prints…everyone commented about how beautiful it is.

Thanks to all of you for your discussion and reports.  Will provide a range report when able to go.

Craig T.

Craig:

Congratulations!  You see, we told you so, and the best part -- firing the little beauty -- is yet to come.

Craig - so the wait is over (long one too eh!) ... most pleased for you.

One thing included with the R9 is a freedom from arrest if caught fondling (the R9 that is!) - it is in fact mandated in a little known publication that to fondle is good. :D :P

I know what you mean re finish, radii etc - as an engineer myself these things are always analyzed.  On the R9 - just shere joy to see.

Hope you will soon manage a trial run.

Thanks for sharing, Craig.  I was really fun to read about your pleasure from receiving the pistol.

I've been waiting since May of 2005.  Even that seems a long time.
