« on: April 08, 2007, 01:57:31 AM »
Gentlemen,

Maybe I am just showing my age,but has anybody tried this
ammo in there gun or guns ? If so how did it work out in them ?
When I was young and bullet proof everybody an his brother were carrying it in snubby's(I still have them in my S & W 442).It seems AMMOMAN.COM has a limited supply of this in stock. Before I buy a good supply, I thought I check with membership to see if any rounds been fired in the PUP ?THANK
YOU for your help.

Grumpy357,
Welcome to the forum!
I used to carry Federal Nyclads in my Sig P239 .40 S&W, but can't find them anymore.  They were very accurate and had low muzzle flash.
I looked for Nyclads for my R9s and couldn't find any at my local shops.
Just downloaded the latest Federal catalog, and found Nyclads are no longer offered.

You may find your R9 is pretty ammunition sensitive.  I have about 900 rounds thru mine and have found it is most reliable with Speer GDHP 124 gr., and Winchester Silvertips in 115 or 124 gr.
Bottom line: Try a few magazines of the Nyclads before buying a large quantity of the stuff.
You also should spend the time to read thru the FAQ section of this forum.  Excellent info that can save you a lot of aggrevation.

Steve

Grumpy:

I can't provide any useful information on the Federal Nyclads, but I can welcome you to the Forum and wish you good luck with the surgery on your shoulder. If it's a torn rotater cuff you're having repaired and misery likes company, I've been there and done that -- last year on my right shoulder, which is my strong side. Just don't neglect the physical therapy following surgery. I'm almost back to normal again, although it will never be the shoulder I used to have.   :-/

AMMOMAN.COM must have purchsed the last of the Nyclads.  Federal stopped making the Nyclad several years ago.  I carried SWHP Nyclads in a S&W bodyguard. The popularity of the Hydra-Shok sealed the Nyclad coffin.

Dear Grumpy
Nyclads are olde stuff. My dad who is now 86 and in a nursing home gave me his gun collection. His model 49 S&W was still loaded with five .38 nyclads. I had given him the bodyguard for his 60th birthday.
After he had been mugged for the third time he told me that he was no longer packing because his .357 was just too heavy and bulky and he didn't have confidence in the stopping power of his .25 back up so the model 49 was the perfect gift.
The next time he was heldup he shot the bad guy with his new .38 and was promptly arrested for the unlawful discharge of a firearm and his gun was confiscated.
Though he was convicted of the misdemeanor ,he was also awarded"Cabdriver of  the Year" in Baltimore City for the next three years. We needed an attorney to get the release of his weapon.
Those nyclad wadcutters did have stopping power.
