Can We Do A Pole?
« on: April 27, 2007, 11:02:11 PM »
A lot of new folks come to the forum with questions and it seems like even people who have owned an R9 have questions from time to time. Anybody know how or have the inclination to do an R9 pole? For example, it might nclude:
. What bullet do you use? Maybe give the usual 5-6 types
. How do you carry it? Belt, pocket, etc.
. How often do you carry it?
. How often do you clean/oil it?
. Etc, Etc, Etc
Yall get the point. To me, it might be helpful for new and long time owners alike. It would be particularly interesting to me to see how people carry them. I bought mine for pocket carry but like my belt slide holster and rarely pocket carry now. Anybody?????

glioma,
what is the point of that bit of cynicism? joesolo asked an
honest and sincere question: poll or no pole.

Since Joe asked "how do you carry 'em"
That would be a "Tote 'em Pole"  Right? ;D
Sorry...I couldn't help myself.

Well, FWIW, I carry my R9s:

. Desantis belt slide (rarely in a pocket holster)
. Winchester White box ammo
. Shoot a carry mag of bullets about once a month to test
. Clean and oil maybe every 3 months
. Carry it daily
. Replace spring every 100 rounds - no exceptions
. Don't usually carry a spare mag

What did I miss....it's early?

Sorry, I stand corrected; I  should have known you wouldn't
make sport of anyone's malapropism.

I carry in the pocket; Desantis Nemesis

I switch between 115gn. WWSTHP and 115/124gn CCI GOLD DOT.

As of late I was shooting it every other week.  But I'll probably run a couple mags through it every other month now.(gotta let my R9 tat heal ::))

Clean and oil every time I shot it.  But will oil it every month if it needs it or not.  I currently oil it with Militec-1.

Check mark on the recoil spring swap at 100 rds, I don't need to cause my gun any unessesary wear and tear.

I don't normally tote a spare mag either but have at times of major insecurity ;).

Oh, and you didn't ask but, I normally carry a Benchmade Emerson 970 in my other pocket.

I my carry mine in a pocket, at this time a Uncle Mike's Sidekick(2)

Winchester 105gr jsp

I try to run a mag every time I use my big bore carry guns.

I clean and oil after every usage(springs change 250rds,no problems yet).

The pup is with me all the time, also a spare mag too.Except in the no no places.
At times when I travel by car I also have big brother (spare mag's) and Kershaw folder and surefire light.

I think if they search, the new members would fine all the answers on the forum -- a fair amount of us, including me, use a Hedley pocket holster.  It's so small, that IWB is quite comfortable, but pocket carry has certain advantages (mainly, allowing you to be in a "ready" position, w.o. having to let anyone else know.)

Most of us use speer gold dots in 115 grain.  I wouldn't carry WWB ammo -- if you want to carry hardball, try to find the highest quality ammo you can -- something built to ALWAYS work.

Clean and oil every time, change the springs every 100, I guess -- I never had a problem w. the old standards, but I do change the springs at 100 now.

Oh, and it's ALWAYS in my pocket, unless A) it's banned by law  B) I'm at the plant/ranch/some other nasty place where I can open carry, and I've switched to either my SP101, or if it's really dirty, something plastic. (either a glock or XD)

"Always in the pocket" is the operative phrase. It is like
wearing a seat belt: you only need to have it locked when
you are in an accident, but which time is that?

When I carry it's in my pocket in a Hedley.

I keep five gold dot 115's in the mag and one in the chamber.

I practice every few weeks with WWB 115's and clean after each session.
To clean I use a very light coating of super lub and less than a drop of Mobil 1

I change the recoil spring after 100-125 rds.

I don't usually carry. My wife and friends think I'm nuts when I do.My general thinking is if I go someplace where I feel that I need to be armed,I probably shouldn't be there .
Most of the time my dog Bud and I travel together. He is a very well trained 100 lb Labradoodle. He has always had a natural afinity for cats ,children and attractive women. When he is called to alert his tail stops wagging and people keep their distance.
I try to stay away from dangerous places and always wear my seatbelt,Still with that said from time to time I do slip the R9 into my pocket.

All fine and good Jeff, but I don't think those people in that mall up in Minn? or the students at V/T felt they where in danger or in a dangerous place either.  I'm sure some of those people in the diner in Tex. wish they had a gun when that coward cut loose on them with several handguns.  Your correct in your assumption that "bad" places can introduce you to bad situations, however, "bad things" can happen in "good" places too.

Very, very true, unfortunately.
In my opinion, if you make the decision to carry, you should carry all of the time (unless prohibited by law). It should become a habit, just like putting your wallet in your pocket before you leave the house. That's why small guns like the Rohrbaugh and Seecamp are so nice; you can have them with you regardless of how you're dressed.

The female dentist at the Luby's cafeteria in Killeen, Tx.
normally carried her gun but left it in the car that day
because she didn't want to be illegal[prior to legal CCW inTexas]. She watched in horror as her parents were both killed
and vowed never to be without protection again.

Her incident and story was instrumental in passing the CCW
law in Texas.
