Love at first bang...
« on: June 12, 2011, 01:58:23 AM »
She's an R9s, there are others like her, but this one is mine.  She is a beautifully crafted treasure.  I have several other sub-compact pistols and they all have served me well, but none possess the ravishing looks or the sleek lines of this gem.

Today she went with me to my range for the first time, there we danced to the tune of 124gr Gold Dots cracking in the wind.  Lesser rounds may have sufficed, but I wanted to see her at her best in a dress rehersal.  She has teeth this one, she bites the hand that feeds her.  But oh, can she dance.

The violent snap of her slide belied the delicate ballet of hollow points cutting paper.  So close they struck, less that two inches apart as they traipsed across fifteen yards of sun drenched Ohio sky.  Unbelieving, I reloaded her magazine and five time again I let her weave her magic spell.  One and three quarters inches this time.  I could almost hear the tiny pistol laugh at me, "Can't you do better?  I can."  I knew then that she could out dance me.

Again and again I pressed her trigger and reloaded until nothing was left of the ten ring but a view of the ravaged backstop.  At every press came a satisfying roar, she did not hesitate, nor fail.  Until at last I returned to the bench and the boxes were empty.  The throb in my hand spoke of a hundred and twenty rounds of proof that this viscious little beauty might soon earn a permanent place at my side.

Wow.

I own and carry a PM9, PM45, P3AT, LCP and ocassionally a G26 or G36.  Not all at once, of course.  ;) They are quite functional, utilitarian, and certainly good enough.  But this little R9 is a treasure that just makes me smile.   She is "just a gun" like a Lamborghini is just a car.  More than an elegant engineering symphony, she hearkens back to a day when people took pride in their craftsmanship and cherished their ability to create masterpieces of function that were also things of rare beauty.

No, you can't shoot her or fondle her...she's mine, go get your own.  I've plenty of other pistols you may shoot, but this one, she's my baby.

Great range report and enjoyable to read.

This line may be one of the best I've ever seen posted about the pup.

Relic.  Welcome to the Forum and congrats on getting the R9s; great range report; thanks.  I, too enjoyed reading about your experience with the Rohrbaugh.  Again, welcome, and post often.

Relic,

Great report and perfectly stated. I feel the same way about my R9. It has become my 90% of the time carry gun. The other 10% of the time I either go with a larger or a smaller pistol to suit the need.
