>>I have tried a variety of good defensive ammo in both of my R-9s over the past few years and for reliability, shootability, and accuracy - my guns prefer .115g Silvertips. My second choice in both guns would be .115g Gold Dots, although IMO and with my guns, it seems that Silvertips produce a smoother recoil than GD, which results in better follow up shots. That said, both rounds get the job done.
For general practice rounds I have had excellent results using .115g brass cased Blazer ammo, which is what Rohrbaugh use in the shop for testing guns...or at least they did last I spoke to the R-Bros. About once a month I take my R-9s to the range and put a one or two magazines of practice ammo through each gun, always ending with a mag of Silvertips.
Other folks seem to prefer the .124g bullets using Silvertips and Gold Dots. I use .115g versions in most of my .9mm guns, and I guess I am just more familiar with those rounds.
Bottom line = you need to try a variety of QUALITY defensive ammo in your Pup to determine what works best for you. And remember...the R-9 was built to be carried a lot...but shot a little. The R-9 is not intended to be a "range gun" for target shooting. That's why God created Glocks = to be shot a lot or to your heart's desire. To protect your heart, carry the R-9.
Note to LAM = $700 is a swell price for an R-9. I wish I had a co-worker who would give me such a deal. Oh yeah...I have no co-workers as I am the owner and sole proprietor of my two businesses. So maybe I should just go out and treat myself to a new gun. Yeah - that's the ticket...!...what a swell guy I am...
And that's all I have to say about that. **words of wisdom from Forrest Gump**
