Mandatory price in classifieds?
« on: February 03, 2011, 11:48:02 PM »
Most of the other gun forums that I frequent require a price to be posted in any "classifieds" posting, and don't allow "auction or make an offer" type postings.

This seems like a reasonable request, as it cuts down on trollers, prevents hard feelings among members who may otherwise get led into a bidding war for an item and prevents wasted space in the listings and much conjecture on the part of forum members within a post.

It's not a big deal, but it does seem to work well most other places, and particularly on a forum that can sometimes get a little heavy on the thread hijacking thing, it might be a good addition to consider here and help keep posts worth reading.

Just my .02 but I'm interested in other opinions.

Mark

I fully agree.  If you want to sell something put a price on it.

It's kind of like stopping at a garage sale with no prices,  When you ask about something you may be interested in depending on the price, you sometimes feel like the seller is sizing you up to see how much he thinks you want the item and how much he can get out of you.
It will be found an unjust and unwise jealously to deprive a man of his natural liberty upon the supposition that he may abuse it.

Duane has covered this subject before on this forum when a member tried to conduct an auction. The "Elite" issue is slightly different but maybe Duane could restate the rules.

Yes, yes, yes!

The rules for the Classifieds appear below the forum title on the main page.  No auctions!  Items must have a fixed price.  This avoids bad feelings and misunderstandings and generally aggressive seller behavior.

The only EXCEPTION to this rule is when I conduct a fundraising auction for the forum.  (It's good to be the king.)  I figure I can control what goes on.  Besides, every time I have done one, the response has been excellent and most polite.

Yes!  The Elite thread has been shut down!    :)
