Hi all,

I just got my New R9s today!  What a magnificent pistol.  I wanted to say hello and ask a question or two.

I took delivery of the gun and proceed directly to the range located in my dealer's store.  After wiping the gun down and putting a patch through the bore I loaded the magazine with Federal Hydra Shocks.  I was able to fire all 6 rounds without any problems what so ever.  The dealer stated that with a clean and lubed gun the gun is reliable for those first 6 shoots.

Continued to reload and fire 6 more shoots.  On round number 10 I had a  FTF requiring racking slide thus ejecting round that wasn't fully chamber.  Pulled trigger 2 additional times perfect.

Loaded magazine for a third time and racked slide. It did not go into battery  required a slight push from my hand.  Pulled trigger and got failure to feed on  3 round.  This time I was able to push slide forward into battery. Continued to fire all remain rounds.

Had 2 rounds remaining plus the 1 orginal rounded that failed to feed and loaded that also into  magazine.  Fired all 3 rounds sucessfully.  I might ad that I set target at 30 feet and was able to hit sucessfully where I was aimming.  This gun is truly accurate and I love it's trigger.

I know this is NOT a target gun and will not be shoot often but is it really true that all I can expect is a perfect firing gun for only one magazine full between cleanings?  It seems to me that my gun # R9xx has started to loosen up nicely by the first 20 rounds.  I'd like to put 150 rounds of carry ammo in before I begin to carry it seriously.

Lastly does the R9 like to be lubricated towards the "wet side" or Dry.  I plan on using MIL-COMM TW-25B lubricant.

I look forward to many enjoyable evenings here on the Rohrbaugh board.

Iorndealer:

Welcome to the Forum, and congratulations on your new R9s.

It sounds to me as if your pistol may just need some more range time to settle down to the reliability you want and should have.  You might want to try Gold Dots (115 or 124) the next time out, as they seem to be the preferred fodder for many of the Rohrbaugh pistols.  Check out R9SCarry's FAQ site for more information in that regard.

As for gun lubrication, my personal favorite is Ballistol, http://www.ballistol.com/, but a lot of knowledgeable people around here prefer other products, such as Superlube, Miltec-1, Mobil 1, etc.  The Cleaning & Maintenance section of the Forum has a number of threads on the topic which you may find of interest.

Again, welcome, and good luck with your new pistol.

Well guys - just picked up my Irishguard R9 at the sports shop.  Looks and feels great - thanks Tom!!  Someone posted the difference in the new production somewhere. Serial number is in the 900s.   The frame is black, the slide release is more rounded, and the engraving seem to be twice as deep as the Farmingdales I've seen.  At least that is what I see externally.

Interesting that this family run sport shop I used for the FFL had never heard or seen one.  They called it was in about 6 hours before I could pick it up so I guess it was well looked over since they had many nice comments - except for the price kind of threw them.   It is interesting that so many people in the gun business don't read the gun mags and keep up.

They had one box of gold dots 115 so I picked it up - the box lid says "20 High Performance Cartridges" but they are not marked +P.  In fact all the gold dot boxes said the same no matter the caliber - so I guess that is how they are marked.  Won't be shooting it right away until I get through two rough weeks of things happening.  I'll get some GDHP 124s.

In fact I haven't even really played with the pup much since I have to leave for a meeting that will run late.

Iorndealer - welcome aboard new owner :)

I think myself that around 100 rounds should be enough for average break in and test.  I had very few FTF's or probs in early stages but I definitely think the pup ''sweetens up'' after it's inaugeration!

Dave - good news Sir - at last eh!!  Hope very much it is all you'd hoped for and more.  I know we can rely on you for feedback later when you have time.

Thank you all.  I appreciate the quick replies and warm welcome.  It's obvious that this is a great board.  I look forward to getting to know all of you in the Rohrbaugh Fraternity.  Lest I mention, even though I'm experiencing  these teething problems I've an opportunity to buy a second Rohrbaugh and will take advantage of that!

Sounds good -- many here have two -- welcome again -- check your grip on the R9 to make sure that is not causing the feed problems -- there are threads here on the topic and what people have done to solve them.   Seems most feeding problems go away after breakin.

Only a cell phone picture (don't want to haul out the digital) so the quality isn't the greatest - but couldn't resist posting my new pup.
