Bad purchase?

Hey everyone! I am a brand new member and a not so proud owner of a new r9s stealth.I was sucked in by the compact size to caliber ratio of this weapon even after a friend advised against it.(another frustrated owner). I work in construction and with the warmer weather coming,I will soon loose the ability to carry one of my larger guns on my hip. I was looking for a nice pocket gun and had my eye on these for quite some time.The fit and finish of the gun is superb, however,right out of the box,after a good lube,I experienced multiple failures to feed,and also light primer hits with hydra shocks,golden sabers,xtp's and also gold dots.Needless to say mine is going right back to the factory after one last try with silver tips on there recomendation,also the purchase of a small .380 to take its place. Cheap performance from an expensive gun, I think! Hope to hear back soon...ARTEC

Welcome, Stay the course and go thru breakin! I have two and both run fine with 124gr GDHP. Your problems could be with the mag depending on what type of failures your having. Rohrbaugh is making stronger mag springs now. When it's running rite it's the best pocket carry out there. Best of luck and don't get discouraged.

Thanks for the words of encouragement newt. I must admit the gun did work better after 100 or so rounds. Lots of people are feeding these things +p ammo. Is that what's killing the springs, causing feeding issues and or cracking the slides? Hope I dont have to dis-arm this thing and turn it into a paper weight!

If owners are using +p ammo it is against all warnings not
to do so by Rohrbaugh Co. and this forum. Why go against
good advice?

Hey Tracker, you we are in agreement and the stamp on the side of the mag.is as plain as day,but I am reading a lot about the use of Speer Gold Dots which are a +P round. What ammo are you running through yours,and how has it performed?

Never feed the R9 +P rounds !!

Golddots do have a +P - if it doesn't say +P for the golddots they are regular pressure.

I have only used Golddots (mainly 115) and 115 Silvertips.

Hope it gets up and running - if not give them a call - great customer service.

This was from my range session last Saturday with GDHP 115 - and I wasn't even trying to do my best aiming - more like a faster point shooting.

About 21 feet - maybe a little more

Artec,  your in the right place to be if your having issues with your gun.  From reading past posts you'll find that springs (mag's and recoil) are potential weak points.  The good news is that these springs can be replaced with updated and stronger versions.  Feeding and ejection issues seem to disapear with these additions.  Others have stated that the R9s is a semi-custom gun which means there is a fair amount of hand fitting going on and from what I've read the Rohrbaugh plant is not large or employ a large work force.  I think you'll find that the majority of owners have no issues with their guns, but when problems do show up they take front billing.  This makes matters seem worse than they really are.  Your gun just needs some fine tuning that the Company will definately take care of.  So don't be discouraged, you made an excellent choice for a ccw, probably one of the best.

Welcome to the Forum.  

Threre's not much I can add to the excellent comments of Newt, Tracker, HKI, and Dave (MountainMan).  I've sometimes likened the R9s to thoroughbreds.  It sounds like you might have one of those few which initially prove to be a bit fractious. If you're patient with it and work with the factory as needed, I think you'll be able to get it ready for the races.

Welcome to the forum..

Finding the right food for the pup is one of the things that is important..Most of us have had good luck with the GDHPs either in 115 or 124..

If you find one round that works better-stick with that and work on something else-like changing out the mag springs(this has helped a couple "problem guns" already)

Also depending on how many rounds you have made,at 100 a recoil spring change is recommended..

The light primer strikes are on all the rounds,or lets say just the GSabres?

Hey thanks for the warm welcome and all the advise you are all giving me. I went to the gun store today and picked up a box of 115g. silver tips and 115g. gold dots, STANDARD PRESSURE! My stupidity last time asked for 124g. gold dots and didnt realize they were +p till I was inspecting the firing pin dent on a spent case and saw the stamp! My wallet is a little lighter as I bought a Colt python I had to have. Why couldn't I be satisfied walking out with just the ammo? Does anyone else have this sickness? To answer your question Brenden, the light primer strikes occured with all the ammo I tried- S&B ball ammo, gold dots, golden saber, xtp's and federal premium. Looking at the pin it seems like very little of the pin protrudes on the hammer side and it is recessed quite a bit on the chamber side almost as though the pin is too short. Is anybody else experiencing this problem? Check the dents on your primers, they should be nice and deep not like you did it with a ball point pen! Well I'll let you guys know how I make out with this ammo. Thanks again!
