OK . . . OK. . . Time for "The Old Man" to step in here. lol.
Interestingly enough, what Kevin mentions here about the retail pricing of our gun in todays dollars is spot on. Back in the early 2000s, Mr. Bill Wilson stopped by our booth at the trade show in Las Vegas, the famed S.H.O.T. Show. He already had a few R9s on order for him and family members, etc. and he says this gun, the R9, should be sold all day long for $1,800.00, so why aren't you guys selling it at that price point? The answer was simply this. . . . Brother Karl was numbers shy about doing that. He did not think anyone would buy them for that amount. I begged to differ. I explained to him we would make more money on them and sell less of them, which would really allow us to go the real extra mile and really make them spectacular. He didn't see it that way, so we made more of them in a "standard fashion" so they retailed. . . . RETAILED around the $1,095.00 mark for the "Standard" and $1,195.00 for the "Stealth", with dealer cost being below that, of course. We were too close to the edge on the cost to manufacture to the jobber cost to keep things going for long, as was the case. If we were to make those pistols today, it would certainly be priced much higher than years ago. (I can hardly wait for the backlash on this little story - ecr)
PS: One other thing. . . yes, the R9 was "right there" on the edge of what you can do with regards to it's size and caliber. There was nothing like it! Can you say: "Pushing the Envelope"!? . . . . . That was the Rohrbaugh R9 Series Pistol!
